Confessions and Flowers ~ Jean C. Gordon

Confession #1: My husband generally is more romantic than I am when it comes to gifts.

For one of our early anniversaries when I was in grad school, we had a new baby, and money was really tight, my husband brought me home a beautiful bouquet of roses. I almost broke into tears because the money he spent could have been used for so many practical things we needed. I'm just one of those people who like practical gifts. (More on flowers to come.) However, I got him back on our 20th anniversary. I bought a CD with Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and had it playing when he got up that morning--over and over. He finally asked why. It's not like Whitney Houston is an overall favorite of mine. He had completely forgotten our anniversary.

Confession #2: The only indoor plant I haven't killed off is a weed in its country of origin, according to a good source.

Confession #3: I far prefer my flowers outdoors.

With their plantings, my son-in-law and grandchildren have done a great job of providing flower color to our property throughout the spring and summer. And if I do say so myself, I've done okay with my row of tiger lilies across the front of our porch. I have my fingers crossed for the heather my granddaughter and her fiance planted for me for Mother's Day.

But, alas, my row of sunflowers across the side of the porch have not done as well. I planted to have about ten sunflower plants, but only three have made it. Not giving up though. I'm going to start the plants indoors next year since we have such a late planting date here to start then outdoors.

Do you have any flower confessions?
