Lyn Cote Reviews Michelle Stimpson's Sisters With a Side of Greens

I don't usually share reviews here but this was such a fun, interesting and real-life story I had to share it!

Sisters with a Side of GreensSisters with a Side of Greens by Michelle Stimpson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sisters with a Side of Greens was all about a family legacy, not land nor $$$$$$$ but Mama's spice mix. The story was very complex with interesting characters especially the two sisters who had hung onto a grudge for many, many years. Very sad because this is so prevalent in real-life families. And now in this story the sisters are in fresh conflict over Mama's spice mix! (Frankly I wanted to buy a packet and try it but of course--that was all in my mind!) :-)I was interested in the church leadership portrayed in the book since it was so different from my church leadership. And it was very funny that the decisions the leadership made turned out to be the wrong ones. The sisters could've told them that. I also enjoyed the young single mom and was relieved when the baby's father turned up and turned out to be different than I expected. All in all a very compelling and unpredictable read--a real dive into sisters, families, churches, and life today. Well done, Michelle! Highly recommended.

Cheryl St.John Chats About Unexpected Setbacks

Writers experience all kinds of setbacks while on deadline. We all have families and homes and responsibilities, and it can be a struggle to stay on track when life happens. This is true for everyone, no matter your job or family role.

We all like to think we’re in control of situations, but life has a way of tossing us the unexpected. It’s essential to plan for success, but we also have to learn to roll with the punches. Accepting that we can only do our best in every situation helps prevent stress.

We can teach ourselves to think and speak positively about ourselves and our situations. I have these words taped to my refrigerator: If you say so. My family takes words seriously. If one of us says, “This is impossible,” or “I can’t do this,” another responds, “If you say so,” which prompts a new confession: “I’m going to figure this out.”

We all have busy lives. Unexpected things happen. Appliances break, bank accounts and social media gets hacked. Computers crash, power goes out. The important thing is how we react. Today I’m sharing a few things to think about.

ACTION STEPS

· Family is your priority
· You will never have it all together; be okay with that
· Show others you’re serious and committed
· Condition yourself to complete tasks
· Have a plan so you can pick back up after interruptions
· Communicate your needs and be aware of the needs of others
· Never wait for the perfect time
· Turn off your television until you finish what you’ve started
· Set priorities (direction)
· Make sacrifices
· Surround yourself with people who support you
· Schedule days for you (relax, find joy)

Make your own list of steps to keep yourself positive and as stress free as possible.

Love historical romance set in the American west? Here's a story for you.

No mother should have to bury her child

Amy Shelby had learned this sorrow well. Her heart had gone into the ground a year ago along with her boy's tiny casket. And not even her husband, Jesse, wrestling the same pain, could resurrect any hope in her.

Jesse Shelby mourned two losses—his baby son and his openhearted bride, for when their child died, Amy retreated behind a wall of grief as wide as the Nebraska prairie. But could a chance for a new family heal their wounded marriage—and guide them back to the comfort of each other's arms?

Goodbye, beautiful summer! by Susan Aylworth

As August draws to a close, we say goodbye to Summer with all her joys and hazards. Where I now live, in Utah at the base of the Rocky Mountains, summer is one of the loveliest times of the year. The growth of scrub oak and evergreens is at its fullest, coating the Rockies in a drape of velvety green. The sky is a crystalline blue, and the lakes all sparkle in the bright sunlight.

I was privileged to spend a part of this summer at a writer's retreat near Park City. Though this area is best known for its world-class ski runs, the summer is better suited to water skiing. From the deck at the lovely home where our group stayed, I watched people enjoy a cooling splash in the nearby reservoir. Utah is careful with its water but treasures the recreation it provides.

As planned, the retreat also allowed for some uninterrupted writing time--time I felt ready to appreciate. I'm releasing several new editions of my Rainbow Rock Romances this summer and, with the help of this week in the mountains, I'll have more new work coming before the year is out. I'm enjoying being able to create again.

Now our little ones--and some of our bigger ones--are all going back to school. The roads clog at predictable times, and the weather is beginning to cool. It won't be long before the velvety green on the mountains morphs into shades of yellow, orange, red, and gold. Not long after that, we'll see the first dustings of snow. For now, I'll enjoy this beautiful, beautiful summer while it lasts. May you also enjoy.

It's a Family Reunion Turned Book Signing by Pat Simmons

Family reunions are my favorite time of the year, and next year, Kerry and I will attend a record number. Three.

Look out Colorado, Texas, and North Carolina, here we come in 2025 if the Lord wills. Family reunions ranked high on my priority list and can be traced back to the mid-1800s after slavery.
Reunions celebrate the living and reflect on the contributions of those before us. We believe in cherishing our elders because we never know how much time we have with them. Such as my mother-in-law, who attended last year's family reunion in Biloxi, Mississippi, but passed away earlier this year. Her absence was missed this year in Chicago.

Some reunions go all out for a themed dinner. This year, it was safari. I sewed Kerry and me matching outfits. We were the only tigers in the room, surrounded by cheetahs and a few zebras, but we had a good time in the jungle.

You can't have a family gathering without a picnic. Family reunions are also like book tours because my family supports me. Got to love kinfolks.

Books, books, and more books by Janice Lynn

August has been a very busy month for me! I had FOUR releases this month. The first one was my latest Harlequin Medical Romance release, Risking it All with the Paramedic. This is a story I've mentioned here a few times as the setting is a veteran legacy flight trip to Normandy, France. I love that I get to draw from real life to give varied settings to my stories and this one was certainly that.

book cover of Risking It All with the ParamedicTwo weeks of temptation for the medical volunteers!

FROM FRANCE TO FOREVER?

When unlucky-in-love doctor Ivy leads a medical team on a veterans’ trip to Normandy, her sole thought is for the patients in her care. So she’s unprepared for the frisson of attraction she feels at meeting fellow volunteer Caleb! It’s clear the good-looking paramedic has ghosts of his own, but over the two weeks they’re together, an undeniable connection forms… Only when they return home, will they be brave enough to risk everything and turn temporary…into happy-ever-after?

And, on August 14th, Tule Publishing released the first three stories of my Wrapped Up in Christmas series. Wrapped Up in Christmas, Wrapped Up in Christmas Joy, & Wrapped Up in Christmas Hope. As these stories incorporate so many things that I love, I often call them the books of my heart. Christmas, military background characters, sweet romance, laugh-out-loud moments, moments that tug at your heart...sigh, did I mention that I love these stories?

The first of the series is Wrapped Up in Christmas. Here's the blurb:

This Christmas brings an unexpected gift…

For years, quilt making has been Sarah Smith’s creative outlet. When she starts donating her one-of-a-kind quilts to hospitalized wounded warriors, she hopes her artistic designs will bring the soldiers peace and the knowledge that their service is appreciated. But this holiday season, Sarah finds herself mired in an arm-length repair list for the B&B she’s hoping to open.

Former Army Ranger Bodie Lewis knows he’s lucky to be alive. But he’s struggling to adjust to civilian life after his injury and mired in survivor guilt. Needing a distraction, he sets out on a private mission to thank the quilt maker for her gift that comforted him during his recovery. He’s hoping he can do a good deed in return. Bodie’s stunned the artist is a young, beautiful woman and amused she mistakes him for the handyman.

Bodie works on Sarah’s home repairs and soon her sweetness and Christmas spirit imbue him with something he thought he left on the battlefield…hope.

August has sure been busy with these book releases. How about you? Has August been a busy month or a more relaxing one?

WRAPPED UP IN CHRISTMAS LOVE is coming November 2024 from Tule Publishing

USA Today, Wall Street Journal, & Publishers Weekly Bestselling author JANICE LYNN lives in Tennessee with her Prince Charming and their princes and princesses, her vivid imagination, an adorable Maltese named Halo who's the true royalty of the house, and bunches of unnamed dust bunnies that moved in after Janice started her writing career. From Family Fun to Forever Love by Merri Maywether

Family fun is one of the themes recognized during the month of August. I like to add a touch of it to all of the stories I write.

There's an undeniable connection between the joy of family fun and the spark of romance. The way we interact with our loved ones can often foreshadow the dynamics of our romantic relationships.

In the realm of sweet romance, the characters who effortlessly navigate the playful chaos of family life often bring that same lighthearted energy to their love stories.

The first thing my grandson does when I walk through the door is suggest a board game. He knows all of our attention will be on our conversations, and grandma will soften the competitive edge with treats, affirmations, and stories of game times in the past.

(I'd also like to include a sweet brag: He taught me how to throw and catch a football without flinching.)

In my novels, family fun nights are more than just a pastime. They're a glimpse into the hearts of my characters. Whether it's the competitive spirit ignited by a cooking showdown, the collaborative fun of a trivia challenge, or the laughter-filled chaos of Mario Kart and Cribbage. These shared experiences reveal the enduring family bonds and often hint at the potential for romantic connection.

In my upcoming release, Cottage Cove New Beginnings, Jess invites Ivan to join the fun when she and her kids have a smoothie competition.

Here’s a little snippet:

Mason and Andie held up their bright yellow, recyclable grocery bag the Community Center had distributed as door prizes. Jess held hers in the air. “We didn’t know if you had a smoothie maker, so we brought ours.”

Ivan led them into his kitchen, where they quickly set up the food station. The fruits and the cutting boards were to the right of his sink, and the smoothie maker was on the other side. Andi dragged Ivan’s trash bin over and set it in front of the sink to discard the peels and whatnot.

“This is how it works,” Jess explained. “We will prepare our fruit at the counter. One by one, we’ll show the ingredients we used and make it in the smoothie machine.”

She showed a stack of clear plastic cups, each with a holding capacity of roughly eight ounces of fluid. “You’ll be able to comment on the color and consistency of your sample.” She pulled out six large plastic containers with lids. “This is what we use to store the rest of the smoothie. At the end, we’ll decide which one is best.”

Ivan held up a bag of popcorn that they had brought along. “What’s this for?”

“You have to have something crunchy to go with your sweet,” Andy said, as if having popcorn with a smoothie was a common food pairing. Jess nodded. Mason shrugged as if to say, “Girls, I don’t get them, but I live with them.”

Ivan sat at the table with Jess, and they watched Mason and Andy prep their ingredients. She whispered over to him, “Thank you for this. It was the kids' idea to have you be the judge.”

Ivan glanced at them. “I’m glad they thought to include me.”

“I am, too,” Jess said.

One of the kids turned on the blender, filling the room with loud buzzing broken up by the clatter of fruit chunks with the blade. A sweet aroma filled the room. Ivan’s stomach grumbled, reminding him he’d forgotten to eat lunch. Andi laughed at something Mason said. For a moment, Ivan was outside himself, looking in.

With all the activity, warm conversations, and small messes, Ivan’s kitchen resembled his parents' house. When the Stansfield kids gathered in the kitchen, everyone worked together, fitting themselves in the small space.

It was kind of like that. There was a process. People moved instinctively. When they bumped into each other, “excuse me” was delivered with a gentle touch to affirm the other person’s presence. It was natural. There was a flow to it.

Ivan gazed at the entryway to the basement, seeing his project with a new purpose. It’d be nice to have a family. His house started with smoothies and popcorn. They’d add hanging out in his basement for movie nights and game nights, and it would be the perfect place for sleepovers.

Smoothies and popcorn were moved to the top of Ivan’s favorite food list.

This is where the snippet ends, and our chat resumes.

As I mentioned earlier, family fun invites everyone to let down their guard and appreciate each other. So, the next time we gather our loved ones for some family fun, let's remember that we're not just creating memories. We might also be laying the groundwork for a beautiful love story.

Captivating moments and cherished memories.

This sunny fall morning has brought with it the familiar buzz of hummingbirds outside my living room window, and I find myself captivated by their graceful movements as they flit around the red plastic feeder. These tiny marvels have been a cherished part of my life since childhood in the long summer months, along with memories of carefree days spent chasing after the ice cream truck, playing with neighborhood friends, and enjoying barbecues with friends and family.

Lately, family gatherings have become a daily activity at Casa Berry. With my youngest daughter’s wedding approaching in October, our home has been abuzz with excitement. Last weekend, we warmly welcomed her soon-to-be in-laws as they visited from Illinois to meet everyone and tour the enchanting wedding venue. Our house was filled to the brim with laughter and love, and I cherished every lively moment of it.

Amidst the joyful chaos, I found a welcome break from my writing endeavors. I’ve been immersed in my new manuscript, Will me a Romance, and my character grappling with the decision of whether to open her heart to the charming new lawyer in town. My own heart aches for her after the trials she’s endured as of late. But she’s strong and capable, so I’m sure she will find happiness in the end.

As I take a drink of my ginger tea and gaze out at the hummingbirds, a delivery driver has arrived with packages, likely the long-awaited bridesmaids’ gifts. My guest room closet overflows with wedding preparations, including the exquisite bridal OK so that dress. Each time I add something to the collection, it brings back memories of my daughter’s childhood days in that room when the closet was adorned with her art supplies and toys. Time flies by so quickly, and I find myself emotional at the thought of it. Better not dwell for long, as tears threaten to blur my vision. I can almost hear my daughter playfully scolding me for being so sentimental.

A knock on the door signals it’s time to conclude this blog post. I hope you are relishing the simple joys that bring happiness into your own life today and yesteryear. To me, they are what make our human journey worth it all.

Back to School in Romance by Merrillee Whren

This is the time of year in many parts of the country when students are headed back to school. Schools in our area started last week. However, my granddaughters who live in Massachusetts still have two weeks before they start school. When I was a kid, we often didn't start until after Labor Day. Years ago I was a teacher, so I had back to school as a kid and as an adult.

Back to school often means new clothes, new school supplies, and a new back pack to hold those supplies. When I was a student, we didn't have backpacks, so we had an armload of books to haul home. Students can also look forward to a new teacher and new classmates.

I have several books that feature teachers who teach different levels and subjects. One of the books even has a homeschool teacher.

The hero in this book is a high school history teacher and a part time youth pastor. You can find buy links here.

The heroine in this book homeshools the hero's twin daughters on his isolated Montana ranch. You can find buy links here.

The heroine in this story has just returned home after serving as a teacher for missionaries in Kenya. You can find buy links here.

As you can see from the blurb, the heroine in this book teaches elementary school, fourth grade. You can find buy links here.

Do you remember a favorite teacher? What are your best memories of back to school?

The Anonymous Bride

I'm often asked which of my books are my favorite. That's almost like asking which of my four sons is my favorite. Still, I keep going back to the same book, The Anonymous Bride, which is the first book my Texas Boardinghouse Brides series. There's a precocious eleven-year-old tomboy who causes all kinds of trouble and adds humor to the story. Readers love Jacquline aka Jack.

The premise is another thing I like about this book: What if two scheming men order a trio of mail-order brides for their unsuspecting cousin, who happens to be the town sheriff? Can't you imagine the trouble that would cause? :)

Here's the story blurb:

Luke Davis tells his cousins he'd get married if the right woman ever came along, never imagining the mayhem such a remark would cause. For a month later, three mail-order brides arrive, courtesy of his well-meaning, scheming cousins. How will he decide which one is right for him?

Widowed boardinghouse owner Rachel Hamilton has loved Luke since they were young but never worked up the courage to tell him. Now that three brides have shown up, vying for his hand, Rachel is totally unnerved. What will she do if Luke marries one of them? Will he ever realize that sometimes love is right in front of you?

The mayor gets the great idea to host a contest among the brides to see which one is best skilled to be a wife. The first contest is pie-making, but instead of three entries, there are four--the last, an anonymous submission.

And now for a sneak peek:

Luke Davis reined his horse to a halt atop the ridge and gazed down at the town half a mile away. Lookout, Texas—the place where his dreams were birthed and had died. He wasn’t ready to return—to face the two people he’d tried so hard to forget. But sometimes God asked hard things of a man.
“I’d rather face a whole band of Sioux warriors, Lord, than to ride into that town again.” He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.
The town hadn’t grown nearly as much as he’d expected it would in the eleven years he’d been gone. From his higher viewpoint, the town roughly resembled a capital E, with Bluebonnet Lane being the spine, and Main, Apple Street, and a new street serving as the three arms. New homes had been added with houses whose wood hadn’t yet yielded to the hot Texas summers.
Luke glanced up. In the trees above a bird chirped a cheerful tune, oblivious to the turmoil churning in Luke’s belly.
Alamo, his black gelding, snorted, as if sensing they’d reached the end of their long journey. The horse tossed his head and back-stepped away from the steep drop-off. Down below, the small river that ran south and west of town still pooled as it made its sharp turn around Lookout. A healthy dose of spring rains had filled the crater dug out by past floods that local kids use as a swimming hole, and a new rope had been added for them to swing on, promising fun as soon as school ended. Memories of afternoons spent there were some of Luke’s favorite. But those carefree days were over.
He glanced heavenward at the brilliant blue sky, halfway hoping God would give him leave to ride away. When no such reprieve came, he reined Alamo around and back down the incline to the river bank. Dismounting at the water’s edge, he allowed his horse to drink while he rinsed three days’ worth of dust off his face.
Alamo suddenly jerked his head up and flicked his ears forward. The horse backed away from the bank and turned, looking off to the right. Luke scooped up a handful of water and sipped, watching to see what had stirred up his horse. Tall cottonwoods lined the life-giving river, and thigh-high grasses and shrubs made good hiding places. He knew that for a fact. How many times as a boy had he and his two cousins hidden there, watching the older kids swimming and sometimes spooning?
“Must have been some critter, ’Mo, to spook you.” He stood and patted his horse, finally ready to ride into Lookout and see up close how much it had changed. How she’d changed.
Suddenly, three heads popped up from behind a nearby bush. “Hey, Mister,” a skinny kid yelled, “that’s our swimming hole, not a horse trough.”
Rocks flew toward him, and he ducked, turning his back to the kids. Alamo squealed and sidestepped into Luke, sending him flying straight into the water. Hoots of laughter rose up behind him as cool water seeped into his clothes. His boots slipped on the moss-covered rocks as he struggled for a foothold. Finally, he managed to stand, watching his new hat float away on the current.
“Foolish kids.” He trudged out of the river, dripping from every inch of his clothing. His socks sloshed in his water-logged boots. Dropping to the bank, he yanked them off, dumped the water, and wrung out his socks. With his boots back on, he checked Alamo, making sure he wasn’t injured, then he climbed on, determined to find those kids and teach them a lesson. Playing childish pranks was one thing, and he’d done his share of them, but hurting an animal was something else altogether.
“Heyah!” Alamo lurched forward. Luke hunkered low against the horse’s neck until he cleared the tree line then he sat up, scanning the rolling hills. He didn’t see any movement at first, but when he topped the closest hill, he found the rowdy trio racing for the edge of town. Luke hunched down and let his horse out in a full canter, quickly closing ranks between him and the kids.
All three glanced back, no longer ornery but scared. He’d never harm a child, but instilling a little fear for the law couldn’t hurt anything.
The two tallest boys veered off to the left out-pacing the smaller kid. The boy stumbled and fell, bounced up and shot for town. Luke aimed for that one as the older boys dashed behind the nearest house. The youngster pressed down his big floppy hat and pumped his short legs as fast as he could. The gap narrowed. Luke leaned sideways, slowing Alamo, and reached down, grabbing the youth by his overall straps. The child kicked his feet and flailed his arms, but Luke was stronger, quicker, and slung the kid across his lap.
“Let me go! I didn’t do nothin’.” The boy held his hat on with one hand and pushed against Luke’s leg with the other hand. “You’re getting me wet.”
“Just lie still. And I wouldn’t be wet if you hadn’t thrown rocks at my horse.” Luke held a firm hand on the kid’s backside, but the boy still squirmed, trying to get free. “Don’t make me tie you up.”
Suddenly he stilled. “You wouldn’t.”
“Whoa, boy.” Luke calmed his horse, fidgety from the child’s activity. Alamo had carried him through all kinds of weather, fights with Indians in the Dakotas, and chasing down train robbers, but one skinny kid had him all riled up.
“My ma ain’t gonna like you doin’ this to me, Mister.”
Luke grunted, knowing the kid was probably right, but then his mama should have taught him not the throw rocks at strangers. The next man might shoot back. Being wet with a cocky kid tossed across his lap certainly wasn’t the homecoming he’d planned in his mind.

Luke has a huge surprise coming. To find out what that is, grab a copy of The Anonymous Bride

Unlocking the Mysteries: The Intrigue of Mysterious Letters by Josie Riviera

In an age of instant communication and digital messaging, there's something undeniably captivating about a mysterious letter. Whether it's a forgotten and tucked away in an old attic or a cryptic message discovered in a hidden compartment, the secrets have the power to transport us to another time and place.

As an author, I've long been fascinated by the role that letters play in storytelling, particularly in romance and mystery. In my latest release, Whispers of Love in Sweetwater Springs, a mysterious letter serves as the catalyst for an unexpected journey of discovery and self-reflection for the characters involved. But what is it about these messages that interests us?

Perhaps it's the element of mystery—the intrigue that comes from unraveling the hidden secrets. In a world where information is often readily available at our fingertips, the notion of uncovering a hidden message or deciphering a coded letter feels like an adventure.

Or maybe it's the personal connection that letters provide, offering a glimpse into the innermost thoughts and emotions of the sender. In an age where communication is often fleeting and impersonal, there's something deeply intimate about receiving a handwritten letter—a tangible reminder of the human connection that binds us together, even across great distances.

But perhaps, above all, it's the element of romance that holds the most appeal. From love notes exchanged between star-crossed lovers to heartfelt declarations of affection written in secret, there is power in a well-written letter.

New release!

In Whispers of Love in Sweetwater Springs, the discovery of a long-forgotten letter sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the lives of those involved, proving that sometimes the greatest love stories are written not in ink but in the whispered promises of the heart.

So the next time you stumble upon an old letter tucked away in the attic or discover a hidden message, enjoy the magic of the moment. You just might uncover a story waiting to be told.

Whispers of Love in Sweetwater Springs is the first book in my newest series, set in the Pacific Northwest. Grab your copy today at the special introductory price. Available in ebook, paperback, hardcover, and large print paperback.

If you prefer episodic reading, Whispers of Love in Sweetwater Springs is also available on Kindle Vella.

The first ten episodes are free!

Moving up to 2007 ~ Jean C. Gordon

It's retrospective time again. Yes, there's a significant gap in my published books at this point. I was still writing for Avalon Books. But I was going through a difficult time. From early 2004 through fall 2005, my Mom and our dads were failing, and we were spending many of our weekends (my writing time, since I also had a full-time day job) driving 300 miles to Western NY to help care for them and relieve siblings. I didn't feel much like writing. Mom dies in early 2004 and the dads in August and September of 2005. As an aside, Dad would have been 100 years old today! Sometime in 2006, I picked up writing the rest of Candy Kisses, a fun story that came out in hardcover on April 1, 2007.

Inside Tidbits

To be truthful, I can't remember much about writing Candy Kisses, except that writing helped me deal with my grief. And my Avalon editor couldn't understand why the heroine would "out of the blue" come up with the candy contest that I thought was key to the story. She wanted to cut it. Somehow, I justified keeping it in. Not entirely sure how, except that I had my heroine see the game in a popular magazine.

For those of you who've read it, tell me if you think the story would have fallen apart without the candy kisses contest.

Also, the hardcover book's cover is the first Avalon cover that was kept for the paper and ebook versions that were later republished by Montlake Publishing (in 2012) after it bought Avalon Books.

Candy Price is tired. Tired of her three older brothers talking her into blind dates with their friends; tired of living in Albany, New York; and tired of her overbearing boss. She'd love to break away and quit her job as a media assistant for a gubernatorial candidate. But that would only validate her brothers' view that she's flighty.

As a diversion, she decides to help her landlord---witty, gorgeous Mike Wheeler---find a new woman. Mike has a diversion of his own in mind: convincing Candy that there's more to life than out-succeeding her brothers. And if something develops between them, well, he certainly won't fight it.

The result? A contest to find the perfect kiss. The rules? Points per kiss are paid in candy kisses. And winner takes all as Candy and Mike begin to fall for each other in this sweet game of love.

You might be able to still find a hardcover copy available used somewhere or in a library, but because Montlake Publishing was owned by Amazon, the paperback and ebook are only available on Amazon. The ebook is also included in Kindle Unlimited.

Have you had experiences that really ought to appear in a book? ....Roxanne Rustand

I spent nine days with family at an Airbnb in July.  If I wrote paranormal or horror fiction books instead of clean romantic suspense, I would have ended up with some good research!

The Airbnb rental was lovely, and the cost was reasonable—I'm guessing because mid-summer is probably not a time when people think of vacationing in that part of the country, where one imagines it will be hot and humid.

We were awed by how beautiful the house was inside, with a formal dining room, high ceilings, two bathrooms, and a totally updated kitchen. It looked perfect. And it was, until...

The lights began brightening, fading, brightening, fading.  They'd work normally for hours, then start this routine again. The microwave abruptly snapped and blew out. The air conditioner stopped working.

Next,  one of the toilets quit working...and then a light fixture hanging from the high ceiling suddenly sizzled and went out with a POP.

For the final hurrah, the night before we checked out, I reached up to place a single cup in a cabinet, and the entire, long, heavy shelf of glassware collapsed.

As if on a children's slide at a park, all of it sped toward me, shattering on the counters, stove, sink, and floor, breaking plates and glassware on the shelf below as well. If I hadn't been wearing shoes, I would have been marooned in a sea of broken glass!

I don't believe in poltergeists or other paranormal activities, but looking back, the stay sounds like something out of a horror story, where the travelers end up in a perfect place that's too good to be true, and then things start to happen. LOL!

Have you ever had a weird experience like this?

I write clean romantic suspense, and not that sort of story, so it won't work for story ideas in the future.

I do have a new release this month, however!  CLICK HERE to learn about DANGEROUS SECRETS.

It is FREE on Kindle Unlimited, and at a low price for those who prefer to buy.

Leave a comment, and you'll be entered to win a free copy of any title in my Northern Pines Suspense series.

Have a wonderful August!

Lyn Cote Asks: Remember the Alamo?

My husband and I traveled to the Alamo in 2009. San Antonio is a lovely city and we enjoyed the River Walk there. We went to Texas then as I was writing this series which I'm giving a new life to! Did you know that the battle over the Alamo was a major event that in the end gave America the whole southwest from Galveston on the Gulf of Mexico to Los Angeles? I love to write historicals and take my readers into the history as participants. BTW, I was born in El Paso, Texas, so I am a Texan --even though I grew up in the Midwest. 😉😊

On Pre-order now—BRAVING ALL FOR LOVE, A Frontier Texas Historical Romance~

REMEMBER THE ALAMO? But do you know the TRUE history? And how it affected both Mexicans and Texans? And especially two opposites???

Their backgrounds are worlds apart, the taciturn Anglo cowboy and the proud Mexican duena.

In 1836 Mexican state Tejas (Texas), Mariana, the lady of Rancho Sandoval, is determined to prove to all a woman can run a ranch as well as any man. But when renegade Comanches kidnap her, the top hand at the nearby ranch, Scully Falconer rescues her and is directed to protect her. Though Mariana protests, the taciturn Scully sticks to her side like a burr.

Then relatives Mariana never knew burst into her life and begin making demands. And when Mexican General Santa Anna crosses the Rio Grande, marching toward a rendezvous with destiny at the Alamo – – Mariana and Scully are swept up together in the tide of history.

The proud Mexican lady, the American cowboy, in a marriage of convenience, must pull together and dig deep within to meet challenge after challenge or they may not survive. Click here to pre-order or for more info. Will go live on Septemeber 24th!--Lyn
