Medical Romance - High Stakes Drama by Laura Scott

Good morning! As many of you know I worked as a registered nurse at our local teaching hospital for almost 40 years before retiring to write full time.

In the early days of the pandemic, nurses and doctors were seen as heroic for the tireless work they did, putting their lives on the line to take care of the sick. As much as I loved nursing, it can be difficult to reap the rewards. Some patients are very appreciative of the care they receive, others are not. And don't get me started on some of the family dynamics, sheesh.

I started my career writing medical romances and was blessed to do a ride along with our very own Flight For Life helicopter. Imagine my surprise when I showed up to find the flight nurse was a guy I dated while we were in nursing school. Too funny!

Providing medical and nursing care in a helicopter is no easy task. I learned a lot that day and from that one shift, my Lifeline Air Rescue series was born.

If you're interested in reading medical drama at high altitudes, then you may want to give this series a try. The first book, A Doctor's Promise is free on all sites.

Will he uncover her deepest secret?

Dr. Jared O'Connor has given his parents a promise--to find his dead brother's fiancee and child. But his mission is derailed when he meets beautiful flight nurse Shelly Bennett. The sadness in her eyes, mirrors his own, and he is drawn to her and to her young son in a way he's never experienced before.

Shelly can't afford to be distracted by Jared's attention. Her son's upcoming testing may confirm he has kidney failure--there's no room for anything else in her life. But when Jared uncovers the truth, she realizes her days of running from the past are over. But can she forgive Jared long enough to accept his love?

RELEASE DAY TOMORROW APRIL 26

Can their book boyfriends lead a book club of hopeless romantics to a real happily ever after?

Sorcha Laurent’s family-owned distillery has become her whole life. A far cry from where she’d expected to be when she’d left school with her newly minted MS in Chemistry and a sparkling new engagement ring on her finger. The family-business emergency that brought her home to the small-town of Willow Ridge has cost her a fiancée and her dream job in medical research. Now she’s at the end of the five-year agreement to manage the family distillery. Sorcha is ready to get back to having a life of her own. It’s time to throw in the bar towel and figure out what new dream might replace the one she lost. Little does she suspect that dream might involve potential business rival and swoon-worthy scholar, Ross Campbell.

A former Scotland National Rugby team player Ross Campbell is on track to his dream job, a professorship at his alma mater Edinburgh University. All he has left is to finish his doctoral thesis, while earning a few bona fides as a history teacher at an exclusive boys school outside Savannah. The fact that people here in the States accept him for himself, not as a former rugby star nor an heir to the Campbell Beverage conglomerate, is only frosting on the cake. And there’s no overbearing grandfather around pushing him to join the family corporation. Ross expects all things to continue according to plan, but meeting fiery Sorcha draws him down an unexpected and surprisingly enjoyable path.

When Ross catches Sorcha’s eye at the Savanah Scottish Games because he looks just like her historical romance book boyfriend, little do they know where their chance meeting will lead. A 50-year-old connection between her grandmother and his grandfather. A centuries-old mystery about a rumored stolen whisky recipe. Feelings that neither have experienced before and don’t know how to handle.

Will Sorcha and Ross’s research sessions take them beyond solving the recipe mystery and their intertwined ancestry to true love? Can they break free of family obligations and interference to live their dreams in a future together?

The Best Fundraiser Ever by Pat Simmons

When my children were small, I was known as the fundraiser queen at their schools. They would win prizes for the highest sales, because "Mama didn't play."

Fast forward thirty years and I hope I still have that go-get-them energy. The Simmons St. Louis Team is sponsoring the first family reunion since the pandemic began. We postponed it last summer out of caution. Now, we want to welcome more kinfolks from all over the country to "Meet Us in St. Louis." I couldn't resist the old Judy Garland movie. :)

Anyway, as I searched for a fundraiser, I stumbled upon a virtual one. Everything is done online from the computer or phone app. Sounds doable.  I am so hoping this works. Instead of going door-to-door, or taking a form to work, which I'm a full-time writer at home now, I have to depend on social media and folks' love of popcorn. I may have to learn how to TikTok to the thrill of my daughter.

The campaign starts May 2nd and ends on May 6th---only four days to sell thousands of dollars in popcorn. Yikes, can we do it?

Here's our event code: Event Code: ETQ OJD Join Simmons Reunion STL 2022's fundraising Event by downloading the Double Good app and entering the code above

I hope you all are popcorn lovers! If so, check me out on May 2nd and stock up.

An inspirational historical romance from a Carol Award–winning author:
Does Rafe belong with his mother’s tribe or on his father’s plantation?

As he chooses between two lives, Eve, a daughter of a prominent Washington, DC family, prepares for an unexpected journey west. Both Rafe and Eve embark on a journey, a Journey to Respect. But such journeys are rarely uncomplicated or without pitfalls. And falling in love is the most dangerous of all. PG13

This moving, authentic historical novel by a USA Today Bestselling author, is one you won’t want to miss. Though part of a series, this story is complete within itself.

          A family’s saga, a young nation’s story~

          What Readers Say:
“I so very seldom write a review but I couldn't turn the last page without leaving one this time. Characters and emotions in this book seem so stunningly real I felt I was in the midst of them. This is a very beautiful story and I highly recommend it to each and all readers.”

“Another fantastic story in this series. Each one is as good as or better than the previous one. We met Rafe McKuen, the son of an Osage chief’s daughter and a fur trader in book two, but we get to know the man he is now.”

April Showers, May Weddings by Janice Lynn

I'll admit that I'm a a sucker for weddings. I love the dresses, the cake, the decorations, the venues,  the wedding party, the celebration of love. I love all of it--except the cost. :)  Although I've seen some beautiful fall and winter weddings, I've always heard that June was the month for weddings. However, this year May is the month for weddings thanks to SOMETHING BLUE, an anthology I'm in with 17 other incredible authors.

And even better, SOMETHING BLUE is available for preorder for just 99 cents. That's an amazing deal--18 stories by bestselling authors for just 99 cents.

When I think of my favorite wedding stories, there are definitely some themes that stand out. For my story, I chose the boy/girl next door and had so much fun with writing Lacey's story of how she'd been dreaming of walking down the aisle to her older brother's best friend most of her life. Now she gets to. Only, she'd hoped they'd be the bride & groom rather than the Maid of Honor and Best Man at her brother's wedding. That's another common theme--Maid of Honor/Best Man falling for each other. Do you have any favorite wedding themes/romantic tropes?

I've not gotten to read all the stories yet and am so excited to get to because who doesn't love a fun wedding love story? Do you have a favorite wedding themed story? Or a favorite real life wedding? I'd say my own to that one for obvious reasons. :) But some of the royal weddings I've seen in my lifetime just get me all dreamy inside. :)

Say "I do" to this collection of 18 sweet wedding-themed romantic comedies by some amazing bestselling authors and kept swept away in the wedding magic.

The Question That Gets Us All: What Do You Want To Eat?

I watch a lot of relationship videos as research for writing. Sometimes the research helps with what not to do. Most of the time, I gain insight into how to handle my personal relationships.

Well this week, I learned a great solution to the “What do you want to eat?" conundrum. Eventually, one of my characters will use this to connect at a pivotal moment in the story. In the meantime, I'm sharing it with you.

The best way to figure out what a person wants for lunch, dinner, dessert, or potluck is to ask them to guess what you’re making. So instead of saying what do you want, have them predict what you believe they'd like.

This will help you know what they want, expresses that you want to do something special for them, and practically eliminates the conversations where suggestions are made and then immediately rejected.

So here’s how the conversation would go:

Person one: You have three guesses. What do you think I’m making for (insert the name of the meal)?

The other person/people: Give(s) an answer.

You now have three options of what to make, knowing what the other person would like.

This also works for restaurant ideas if you’re going out to eat.

          🍽️ 🍽️. 🍽️.

In this month's story, my research focused on rebuilding bonds after a hasty response tears them to pieces? The answer to this question required help from all the friends and family in the Paradise Hills community.

          💕 💕 💕

Faith Alexander ran away to Paradise Hills to hide from her past. Back home she has a mother that wants to run her life and the ruins of a marriage that never happened.

An unexpected job offer gives Faith the chance to start a life where she can live life by her own rules.

A week before they were supposed to get married, Clark Grayson called off his wedding to Faith. By the time he figured out he made a mistake, it was too late to right the wrong.

          She was gone.

Clark and Faith are brought back together, unaware of the other's role, as bridesmaid and groomsman for a friend's wedding.

Sparks fly and love will be tested. Paradise Hills is waiting with bated breath for the answer to one question. What will it take for Clark to regain Faith's trust?

Paradise Hills Summer is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone novel. Download a copy and escape into a feel-good summer love story.

Brides of Seattle by Kimberly Rose Johnson

Since the start of the year I have had it in my mind that I needed to compile all the books in my contemporary romance series, Brides of Seattle, into a collection, but I was in the middle of getting my house ready to put on the market, then it sold a week and a half after it went on the market. After that, I had six weeks to pack up and pair down 30 years of life.

I spent every day of the week working on purging belongings and packing. Then once a cupboard was empty I cleaned it so I wouldn't have to later. Though we no longer own our house and are now in Montana, we are still not settled. We are in the process of building a "tiny" house (960 sq. ft) on my parents' property. It's technically their guest house. We spend six days a week working on it so we can move in by the time our belongings are delivered from the moving company that is storing it for us.

We are currently living in an airbnb, but are scheduled to move out this coming week. We'll be living in my parents' guest room until the house is completed enough to move into it. If you are a praying person, we'd appreciate prayers for this. This little house has been one challenge after another and we are anxious to get into our own space. It's a challenge being in limbo.

All this to say, this past week I finally felt I could take a day to get the Brides of Seattle collection put together. If you enjoy sweet, faith-based contemporary romance then this is for you.

Three strong women discover love where they least expect it.

          Until I Met You

Graphic designer, Brandi Prescott is determined to stay single through Christmas. She’s nearly there, until one fateful morning when her morning walk to the coffee shop turns into anything except ordinary.

Ian Parker thinks he’s finally found “the one,” but when she reveals she has made a promise to herself and to the Lord that she will not date for six months he’s perplexed and disappointed.

Will Brandi’s promise cost her what could be the love of her life, or will Ian wait until she’s completed her pledge?

          The Reluctant Groom

When everything goes wrong, can two friends discover true love?

When Ray O’Brien’s world is turned upside down, Katie Fairchild wants to help, but the personal cost is high. Neither desires a marriage of convenience, but when Katie blurts the first thing that comes to her mind Ray can’t dismiss her offer of marriage. It would solve all his problems except for one thing—they aren’t in love.

Can these two friends team up for the greater good and perhaps find love along the way, or are their expectations impossible?

          Simply Smitten

Business brought them together but will betrayal pull them apart?

Michael Pierce co-owns a start-up software development company. They are well on their way to success when Michael discovers something that changes everything. Can the beautiful economist he hired fix the mess, or are they doomed to bankruptcy?

Hailey is under a lot of pressure at work. Not the least of which comes directly from her new boss. She’s dreamed of being a successful businesswoman, but now her heart wants more. Can she have love and a career, or will she have to choose?

This book is discounted over the cost of buying each book individually and it's free to read if you have Kindle Unlimited.

I hope you'll check it out and leave a review.

          It's exclusive to Amazon.

          Until next month Happy Reading!

          Cover Reveal by Merrillee Whren

Last fall a group of Sweet Romance Reads authors did a promotion in which we introduced Christmas novellas one week at a time for several weeks leading up to the Christmas holidays, and Puppies for Christmas was born. We used the cute little dog below to mark all the books.

A number of us plan to write more Puppies for Christmas novellas again this year. So the answer is: No, it's not too early to think about Christmas. In order to be ready for the promotion, we have to write the novellas. That takes weeks. Then we have to get them edited. We have to proofread. We have to format them for publication. There are a lot of things to do in order to get ready to publish a book. One very important item is the book cover. You know we all do judge a book by its cover. Although I'm still writing the book, I already have my cover. Here it is.

I'm adding this novella to my Happiness in Hallburg series. Here are the other two novellas I have written for the series.

You can find more about this series by clicking here.
