Introducing Laura Scott!

Good morning! This is my first blog post here and I thought it might be a nice time for you to learn a little about me, and I'd love to hear some interesting facts about all of you, too!

I'm a Registered Nurse by day and a romance writer by night. I work at the only level 1 trauma center here in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Our hospital has 650 beds total and 110 of them are critical care beds. My speciality is critical care, but I have been in leadership for a while now. I'm retiring from my day job April 9, 2020 after 38 years, to write full time. I can't tell you how excited I am about that!

I've been married to a wonderful man for going on 35 years, and we have two adult children. My daughter Nicole married the man of her dreams in August of 2018 and my son Jonathan is also a Registered Nurse at the same hospital where I work.  That's a picture of him in front of his new house. And here are photos of my daughter's wedding!

I have been very blessed to have sold my first book to Harlequin back in 2003 and have since written over 50 books for them. When I'm not writing Love Inspired Suspense stories I have several indie romance  series that have been a lot of fun to write. These are all sweet contemporary romances.

On November 1st my latest Love Inspired Suspense book Soldier's Christmas Secrets will be available. This is the first book in my Justice Seekers miniseries.

Also, my book A Doctor's Promise will be free only until November 1st, so if you haven't read my books and want to give one a try click on one of the vendor links below. I had an opportunity to do a ride along with our own Flight For Life and this Lifeline series gives you some insight into what it's like to be a flight nurse on a helicopter.

That's all the interesting stuff about me, how about you? Drop me a note and introduce yourself! I look forward to getting to know all of you better.

Thanks, Laura Scott

Does a Date Have a Special Meaning for You? By Margaret Daley #sweet romance

Has a date had a special meaning to you? I chose to blog on the twenty-seventh each month because it is the date of my birthday in April, but it is also special to me because it is my father’s and younger brother’s date of their births. As I hunted what has occurred on April 27th, I learned Ronald Reagan was shot on that day, Apollo 16 returns to earth, Ulysses Grant was born, John Milton sells his book, Paradise Lost, for 10 pounds, and Beijing students took over Tiananmen Square in China. You can go on the Internet and put your birthday in and ask what happened on that date. It was interesting to see what did through the years.

For October 27th some of the events that occurred are:
Boss Tweed was arrested for corruption in New York City. (1871)
20,000 women marched in a suffrage parade in New York City. (1917)
Groucho Marx premieres on ABC radio. (1947)
James Dean and Natalie Wood starred in a Rebel Without a Cause and it was released. (1955)
U.S. performs a nuclear test in Nevada Test Site. (1962)

Halloween? Not my favorite

Everybody has a favorite holiday (Christmas, anyone?), and most of us have at least one that we'd rather do without. I feel that way about Halloween.

I didn't when I was a kid. I can remember some of the fun costumes I wore. (Yes, kids, we wore costumes even in the dawn of time.) In those days, moms still handed out homemade popcorn balls, cupcakes and candy. The idea that we'd give out only store-bought candy with each piece individually wrapped, goodies parents could feel secure about letting their kids eat, hadn't occurred to any of us.

Maybe that's part of what's soured me on the occasion. As the years pass, it seems Halloween becomes increasingly focused on the dark side. Parents have to walk the streets with their children even in their own neighborhoods, just to be certain they'll be safe. My husband, a photo-journalist, shot pictures of some of the cute kids at our door one year and ended up explaining that to the police. Suspicions are high--for good reason. No one dares bite into an apple taken from a stranger any longer. We've learned we can't trust each other.

I still enjoy seeing the kids dress up, especially when there's cleverness to their choices like the twins who came as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Seuss, or the time my daughter's whole family dressed as characters from The Wizard of Oz or last year when she dressed her baby girl as a Cabbage Patch Kid  Adorable! One favorite was when our son and his family did a redux of an old, much-loved video game. Clever, isn't it?

Still, among the princesses and pirates who grace our doorway, I see too many zombies, blood-covered walking corpses, or hockey-masked serial killers. The emphasis on the violent and gruesome wrings out the joy and the innocent childhood delight. And it isn't always about childhood: the sulky teen who wears his everyday hoodie, walks up to my door, and sticks a pillow case in my face doesn't exactly make me want to answer the doorbell.

Okay, I'm a stick-in-the-mud, but I find that from one year to the next, I dread the coming of October 31. My husband has suggested that this year, we take the advice of one candy commercial: stock up on plenty of goodies, then turn off the lights, sit in the dark, and eat it all ourselves. There's an appeal to that, but I do see potential down sides, especially the next time the doctor asks me to weigh in.

I've been thinking that, instead of bingeing, I might look for somewhere else to be. Does anyone know of a great place for a stick-in-the-mud to hide out this Thursday? I'll bring candy.

A house flipper looking for quick profit. A survivor with a dream. Can two broken hearts find a place to call home?

When a Miami investor calls in search of prime property flip prospects, North Carolina real estate broker Candee Contando expects to meet a balding, steely-eyed land shark. Turns out the first customer she’s had in months is a hot prospect in more ways than one.

Except his gaze has fallen on her dream house, a dilapidated Victorian she just bid her last penny on in hopes of creating a safe place for disadvantaged children—like the girl she used to be.

Teddy Winchester is adept at negotiating life’s curves, but Candee’s curves stop him in his tracks. She’s a warm spark in the emptiness he’s felt since his brother died, leaving him with a beloved nephew to raise.

Attraction glows in Candee’s eyes as well, but there’s also wistfulness as she points out all the reasons an old, tumbledown Victorian doesn’t fit into his tried-and-true house-flipping plan. Yet the more he looks at the house—and at her—he begins to think some things are worth the risk.

Now if only he can convince her that building a new life often starts with tearing down some walls…

When the heart flips, there’s no telling where the walls will fall.

Things My Daughter Taught Me by Pat Simmons

There's something to be said about daughters. Since I only have one, I tell Simi that she is my favorite. What if I had 5 daughters? I'd never get away with that. When I look back at the little girl who grew up before my eyes, I'm in awe at the woman she's become and the lessons she has taught and is still teaching me---the mom!

1. Clearly I no longer know how to apply makeup artistically. "Mom, you have to use a good primer, concealers, highlighters, contours..." What happened to mascara, blush and lip gloss?
2. According to her, I need to upgrade my clothes, because they all look the same. "Mom, I know they're different clothes, but it's the same style." What does she know. Some of my dresses are SHORTER than others.
3. I better take notes when I go to the doctor and report back to her. "No, mom, they are NOT going to run more tests or do those procedures. THEY need to give you more information on why you need a flu shot..." (I made up the flu shot, but you get what I mean.)
4. I always thought I had a comfortable mattress until I visited her. "Mom, it's only a foam mattress topper. They have them at Bed, Bath and Beyond." Who knew?
5. The most heartwarming words from my daughter were she admitted to listening to my advice over the years and in hindsight, she wished she had followed it.  Imagine that. LOL.

I'm sure there are more lessons coming from my favorite daughter, and I'm a thankful momma.

I have an entertaining family and that's why I enjoy writing about strong family ties in my Christian romances. I have a new release that is part of the Small Town Christmas series, I hope you will download all six books.
Who lays off someone before the holidays? Taye Thomas’ employer did, so instead of Christmas shopping, she’s job hunting. More devastating news comes when an old high school friend passed away. Could God be answering her prayers for help when she learns that Charity Hart left a $1500 check?

No, the caveat is it’s more blessed to give than receive. Taye has 30 days to find someone else in need to bless. To complicate matters, she’s lives in Kansas City, which is more than eight hours away from Snowflake and she can’t do it alone. Keeping a secret has never been so much work.

Enjoy all six books in the series:
Mia’s Gift by Cindy Flores Martinez
Caro’s Gift by Jean C. Gordon
Nate’s Gift by Jackie Castle
Sara’s Gift by Kimberly Rose Johnson
Holly’s Gift by Josie Riviera

Hear what some say about her work: Reader, Dominique, writes, I  absolutely love her books. I mean spirituality in them is strong and the romance is real. My favorite is Love Led by the Spirit. Jet' s character is so real. I feel like I relate to her a lot when it comes to anger.”

A fellow author describes Pat’s writing in In Defense of LoveWhat can I say about Garrett and Shari? I loved their love. I thought Kidd and Eva (Guilty by Association) were it for me but this couple was hot!!! I loved the way Pat Simmons weaves a tale of a smoking hot romance around the infallible Word of God. I nearly had a heart attack but as only Pat would do...she made it all better in the end.”

Romance Novel, Inc., says, “Wow!  I loved the way that the storyline (No Easy Catch) flowed so smoothly. Pat’s scriptures were well timed and very appropriate, without being preachy or over the top. I loved how Shae and Rahn seemed like normal, everyday people that lived normal everyday lives. They were not so overly wealthy, or so over the top sexy that they were unbelievable.”

Meet Laura Ashwood

Hello and happy fall! My name is Laura Ashwood and I am excited and blessed to be a new author here at Sweet Romance Reads.  I thought I'd let you get to know me a little today and hopefully you'll tell me a bit about yourself in the comments too.

My husband and I live in northern Minnesota, about an hour from Duluth. We have four adult children and two grandchildren that we adore when we are able to see them.

My day job is with the University as an executive administrative assistant. I commute 65 miles each way to work so I have a deep fondness for audio books and podcasts.

The photo on the right was taken in our back yard two weeks ago. That tree is bare now and yes, that is a sasquatch in the background, a gift from my husband. Fun fact about me: I LOVE sasquatches. We live 20 miles from the closest...well...anything. The closest town to us has a population of 162 and we do not have Wi-Fi access at our house unless we use our cellular mobile hotspot. It's quiet and peaceful though and we love it.

When I'm not writing or working (or driving lol), I love to cook and craft. My husband and I enjoy spending time outdoors on our property and fishing some of the local lakes (Minnesota has 10,000 to choose from!). I am a coffee and Hallmark Christmas movie addict and I have two chihuahuas that are spoiled beyond belief.

I dreamt of being a writer all my life but really just started writing seriously last year. I am an active member of my local RWA Chapter, as well as two online chapters: Contemporary Romance Writers and From the Heart Romance Writers. My short story, Second Chances, was published in an anthology by my local chapter last year. I was blessed to have been selected by Sweet Promise Press to write in their Celebrity Corgi Romances series and my first novel, Romancing the Royal was published through them this past summer. I write contemporary and historical sweet/inspirational romance and have a contemporary inspirational and two historical pioneer romances slated to publish in 2020 (so far).

Romancing the Royal is book 3 of The Celebrity Corgi Romances and available on Amazon and is free in Kindle Unlimited. It, and the rest of the series, is a sweet romance.

Now that you know a little about me, I'd love for you to tell me a little about you! Do you have pets? Do you like Hallmark Christmas movies too?

Thank you!
Laura Ashwood

Janice Lynn--New Author to Sweet Romance Reads #sweetromance

Hi! I'm a newbie here, and am looking forward to our getting to know each other.
I'm Janice Lynn.  I'm married to my dream guy. You might say he swept me off my feet. :)  We have a blended family of 7 kids. Our house is never dull, to say the least. These days, they're all grown up and spread out from Memphis, TN to Columbia, SC and pretty much all in between.
We have the most adorable furry family member. Her name is Halo and, really, she's the boss--or thinks she is, anyway.

I work full time as a nurse practitioner in a family practice and love taking care of people and trying to make a difference in their health and lives. I view writing my stories in the same way--trying to make a difference        in peoples' health and lives. I truly believe a book can change a person for the better by taking them somewhere and lifting them up. That's my goal with each story I write--to make someone feel better, to share a smile, some laughs, and them to leave the story feeling good inside. Sometimes, I get it right. :)

I sold my first book in 2005 to Dorchester Publishing and in 2006 I started writing Medical Romances for Harlequin. For some time, I've known my heart was toward writing sweet romance. My wonderful agent supported me on this and submitted the story I wanted to write. I'm ecstatic that on October 1, 2019, Hallmark Publishing released my first sweet romance, Wrapped Up in Christmas.

This story let me combine my passion for writing romance, quilting, and a love of Quilts of Valor Foundation. Sarah donates a quilt to QOVF and the quilt makes it's way to a wounded warrior named Bodie Lewis. When Bodie comes to thank Sarah for the quilt, she thinks he's answering her ad for a handyman and he goes with it, wanting to help the woman who helped him heal. There's a lot of small town shenanigans thanks to some meddling church ladies who call themselves the Butterflies and loads of Christmas charm throughout, just as you'd expect from anything to do with Hallmark. There's a yummy recipe for Cinnamon Swirl Bread included in the book, too. I'll let you in on a secret...that Cinnamon Swirl Bread recipe is a guarded secret as rumor has it that it possesses special abilities. Just saying...

On November 8, I'll be on Hallmark Channel's Home & Family talk show doing a DIY craft segment and discussing Wrapped Up in Christmas. I'm a bit (a whole lot!) nervous. Ack! But I'm so thrilled to get to share this special book with the world, to raise awareness for an organization I believe in, and to meet Cameron Mathison & Debbie Matenopoulos in person. Just wow!! If you're a Hallmark fan, be sure to check out the show & keep your fingers crossed I don't say Uhm too many times, that I can talk at all, and that I don't pass out, too. All good vibes & fingers crossed are much appreciated. :)

If you love small town romances that will tug on all your emotions and leave you warm and in the Christmas spirit, then I hope you'll read Wrapped Up in Christmas and let me know what you think of Sarah & Bodie's love story.   Buy at Amazon  Buy at Barnes & Noble

Now, that's a bit about me. Introduce yourself. Any Hallmark fans out there? Fans of Christmas stories? Any quilters?

New Sweet Romance Release by Jackie Castle

It started with a condition in their father's will. Jack Kelly had a happy, successful life, then tragedy struck and he lost his wife in an accident. As he watches his five sons grow into men, they've also found success in their own rights, but something major is missing in each of their lives.

True love. A family of their own. Contentment.

The Kelly brothers now have a big problem: according to their father's will, all five of them must be married by Christmas or risk losing the charity they started with their father, along with their portion of the billion-dollar family fortune.

Up against seemingly insurmountable odds, J.J., Seth, Ryan, Clark, and Parker are not men who will back down from a fight. Each book is a clean romantic adventure in how the brothers deal with the challenge of saving their livelihoods and their hearts.

My story - Her Quiet Billionaire Groom

An impossible demand. A woman who hates him. Could they get a Christmas miracle?

Expert animal trainer, Seth Kelly, has put everything into his animal rescue charity on the Kelly Brother Ranch in Colorado. When his father suddenly passes, Seth is completely blindsided. He’s even more blindsided when his father’s will demands that he and his four brothers get married by Christmas or lose their inheritance and their charities. Yeah, right—he will not lose his charity! Online dating sites, here he comes!

All Noelle Combs wants is to take her relationship coaching blog and turn it into a regular television show. And she has the chance, too—if she can figure out a way to take the stars of her blog—two, rowdy, uncontrollable Great Danes—and tame them enough to be manageable on the show. Good thing her agent finds her the perfect animal trainer. Bad thing –it’s the man who broke her heart five years ago.

When Noelle turns into Seth’s relationship coach, and Seth can’t believe he ever let this woman go, sparks fly. Now they are faced with a choice: forgive or walk away and lose the only true love they ever had.
