You're Invited! Via Kimberly Rose Johnson

This past year, six of the sweet romance reads bloggers wrote a heartwarming series set in small-town Colorado. They are currently on Amazon for pre-order for only 99¢.
We will be holding a launch party in our Facebook Sweet Romance Reads Cafe. If you are not yet a member of that group. Click here to join. Note, you must answer the question on the application to be admitted into the group.
We hope to see you there!

My contribution to the series is Sara's Gift. Here's a bit  about the story.

Christmas is the season of giving, but Sara isn’t sure she is up to the task.
Playing secret angel in high school was fun, and now, years later, Sara has the opportunity to do it once more on a bigger scale. She enlists the help of Gabe, her long-time best friend, to come up with a deserving recipient. But something is off with Gabe—he’s more attentive than usual.
The Christmas season has put Gabe in a reflective mood. His evaluation of his life has left him lonely and wanting more. But can his heart have its desire? That’s up to Sara.
Can these two long-time best friends navigate their changing relationship, or will the romance Grinch steal their Christmas joy?

Autumn Recipe by Alicia Street

Well, we just saw the Harvest Moon and next week is the beginning of fall.
One of the things I love best about autumn is the variety of apples everywhere as well as the different kinds of squash that come back in season.

Here is one of my favorite fall recipes that uses both.

2 acorn squash
2 apples (Nice to pick two different kinds. Honeycrisp and Macintosh are my favorites.)
2 Tbsp. butter
Dried cranberries
¼ cup raisins
½ cup walnuts and pecans
½ tspn ground cinnamon
½ tspn brown sugar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Cut the squash in half and trim off the ends so the halves will sit flat. Scoop out the seeds.
Place the squash halves in a baking pan and dot them with oil or butter.
Bake 40 minutes or until tender when poked with a fork.

While the squash is baking, peel the apples, core and cut into small cubes.
Melt the butter in a skillet. Toss in the apples and gently sauté. About one minute. Don’t let the apples get mushy.
Transfer to a large glass bowl.
Chop the cranberries and nuts. Or you can leave them whole if you like bigger pieces. Stir them into the large glass bowl with the apples.
Add the cinnamon and sugar and tossed till mixture is coated.
Remove the squash from the oven and sprinkle with butter from the skillet.
Fill each with the fruit and nut mixture, warm in the oven for ten minutes and serve.
Yum!

Cover Reveal by Merrillee Whren

Last month I talked about the hero and heroine, Jeremy and Whitney, of my current work in progress, A PLACE TO FIND LOVE. This is the final book in my Front Porch Promises series. Here are the other books in the series.
I now have the cover for A PLACE TO FIND LOVE. I think it captures the front porch theme of the others books. What do you think?

Whitney Hamilton wants to put her past behind her and make the best of her current circumstances, a high demand job and caring for her mother, who has dementia. But Whitney’s newest coworker, Jeremy Cunningham, is a constant reminder of her foolish past.

Jeremy wants to show the world he is his own man, but that may prove difficult as he steps into his brother's old job. The biggest obstacle to his success is Whitney, his brother’s former girlfriend, a source of discord for his family.

When Whitney and Jeremy find themselves attracted to each other, there are so many reasons, old and new, to keep them from revealing their feelings for each other. Will a long-kept secret finally bring them together?

Do you think office romances have a build-in conflict?

My Uncle Jesse by Cindy Flores Martinez

Jesse Quinn is the hero in my latest story, Mia’s Gift. He’s also known as Uncle Jesse to his niece Kristi. I named him after my real-life Uncle Jesse.

In some of my earlier blog posts, I wrote about my family history search. Genealogy has been so important to me because for many years I knew nothing about my maternal grandfather. My mom’s father died when my mom was one year old and the only things he left for her were a picture of a woman believed to be his mother and a baby book with his brother’s name in it. My mom grew up not knowing anything else about him, including the name of his son from his marriage.

The family history websites eventually uncovered records, and today, I know so much about my grandfather and his son, my Uncle Jesse. A mix of joy and heartache were involved in the discovery because Jesse and his daughter—my sweet cousin—had lived only about 10 miles from me when I was growing up. I passed by their neighborhood more times than I can count. And by the time I found everything, Jesse had passed away.

When I sat down to write about the hero in my story, the most wonderful uncle a girl could have, I decided to dedicate my story to my Uncle Jesse who I never met.

Mia’s Gift is part of the Small-Town Christmas Wishes series that six Sweet Romance Reads authors are part of. All books are available for pre-order today!

The Sound of Silence by Josie Riviera

How many times have you gone for a walk outside without your phone and headphones? My husband will rush back to our house if he forgets either, because for him, silence is a real trial. In fact, many people associate silence with loneliness and solitude.

I, however, prefer absolute silence, especially when I write. Perhaps because I’m a musician, if I hear music, I start analyzing the chord structure, or tuning in to the lyrics.

Studies indicates that silence reaps both spiritual and emotional benefits. Many people in today’s culture depend on tech devices: phones, incoming text messages, and the constant distractions of social media clutter our thoughts.

However, silence is said to soothe the mind and restore stability.

The following are some ideas to get you in the habit of entertaining silence:

Walk silently with a friend, or by yourself
Employ deep breathing exercises
In the morning, engage in a few moments of private prayer before beginning your day.

Have you ever made a deliberate decision to entertain silence and be alone with your thoughts? Please leave your comments below.

Be sure to pre-order your ebook of Holly’s Gift at the introductory sale price of only 99¢! Delivered straight to your inbox on September 30th, this inspirational romance will warm your heart for the holiday season.

Miracles don’t always come easy. Sometimes it takes a secret wish to light an angel’s way.

When Holly steps into a homeless shelter looking for an MIA piano student, she notices a distinct lack of Christmas cheer—because a handsome building inspector is forcing the shelter to temporarily close down.

Holly knows bad guys—she was married to one. Yet when the man asks her out, she finds absolutely not warring with absolutely yes.

Tim Stewart doesn’t hold his breath waiting for God to answer prayers. He went from homeless desperation to television stardom to relative obscurity while God stayed silent. But when Holly barrels into his life, her steady faith sparks hope for a dream of his own. Even if it means praying for a Christmas miracle—one last time.
