My Uncle Jesse by Cindy Flores Martinez

Jesse Quinn is the hero in my latest story, Mia’s Gift. He’s also known as Uncle Jesse to his niece Kristi. I named him after my real-life Uncle Jesse.

In some of my earlier blog posts, I wrote about my family history search. Genealogy has been so important to me because for many years I knew nothing about my maternal grandfather. My mom’s father died when my mom was one year old and the only things he left for her were a picture of a woman believed to be his mother and a baby book with his brother’s name in it. My mom grew up not knowing anything else about him, including the name of his son from his marriage.

The family history websites eventually uncovered records, and today, I know so much about my grandfather and his son, my Uncle Jesse. A mix of joy and heartache were involved in the discovery because Jesse and his daughter—my sweet cousin—had lived only about 10 miles from me when I was growing up. I passed by their neighborhood more times than I can count. And by the time I found everything, Jesse had passed away.

When I sat down to write about the hero in my story, the most wonderful uncle a girl could have, I decided to dedicate my story to my Uncle Jesse who I never met.

Mia’s Gift is part of the Small-Town Christmas Wishes series that six Sweet Romance Reads authors are part of. All books are available for pre-order today!

Mia's Gift (Small-Town Christmas Wishes Series Book 1)

Mia Rosa is thinking of leaving Snowflake, Colorado for good. Her cupcake shop on Main Street isn’t doing well, and seeing her ex-fiancé around town is awkward. When she receives a letter and a check for $1,500 from her old high school friend, Charity Hart, asking her to be a secret angel for Christmas, she’s convinced she can’t go through with it. But Mia soon learns that handsome Jesse Quinn and his fifteen-year-old niece, Kristi, are in desperate need of a miracle. The group home where Kristi lives is shutting down, and no other foster homes are available in Snowflake. Will Mia be able to secretly grant Jesse and Kristi’s wish for Kristi to stay in the lovely small town she calls home?
