My Phone... by Christine Bush

I am in love with my phone.  More than love. Total dependence.  That little rectangular thing literally runs my life. Probably I need therapy.

It’s my alarm, waking me each day and keeping track of the time.

It tells me the weather.  And the news when I want to hear it.

I have no more phone numbers in my head.  The phone lovingly guards them “in the cloud”.

I have no need for an encyclopedia salesman.  I have Google. Whoever Ms. Google is, she’s super smart.

I don’t have to get lost any more.  I get step by step instructions as I drive and even get warned of traffic jams.

Book research is a snap.  If I want to describe the Trading Post on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, I can muster up a perfect picture and include every detail in my manuscript.

I  can buy tickets. Make appointments. Order anything under the sun on Amazon and have it show up at my door. And I do!

I can take pictures, videos, and send them all over the world.

I can play games and waste time in such a fun way.

This is one powerful little machine, let me tell you.  In fact, I can’t live without it.

What will they think of next?

I have some ideas. I have more needs.  Verizon hasn’t asked me yet, but I’m ready when they do. Mostly right now they are just thrilled when I pay the gigantic bill.

But here goes my wish list…..

Can we have an app for “facial recognition” that I can slyly point as someone approaches, telling me “This is Anna Banana from aerobics class” ? This would be helpful for my senior moments.

Can somebody make a blasted battery that just does NOT go dead? A dead phone is a little like being in a coma.

Can my phone please respond to me (when on or off) when I call, so I never lose it?  “Phone, where are you?”  “ You left me in the bathroom.”  That would be helpful.

And it may be stretching the point, but technological miracles occur all the time… Can you make this little sucker make coffee? I’m waiting for that one.

Let’s salute our phones. How important is yours?  I’d love to hear!
