Zooming Through the Day... by Christine Bush

In this time of social distancing, with the world going on line and our face to face interactions so limited, a tool that I thought I’d NEVER use (being a confirmed Luddite, and a person who PREFERS seeing people in 3D) has become a VITAL part of my day.
Zoom!

I was terrified with the first zoom, though I’m not exactly sure why.  I just had to click a link provided by a more techie friend,  and ZOOM!

A college professor, I accepted the news that classes were being moved to an on line format. ZOOM! Here came the learning curve!

Recording daily lectures became a necessity, having them available 24/7 for my wonderful and slightly stressed out students who are often juggling working at home or working extended hours in an essential position. Some are also juggling homeschooling for their kids, and sharing computers.  So I mastered recorded zoom as well as live rooms.

Need a fancy background or the illusion you're on the beach as you zoom?  A green screen and a few clicks can transport you anywhere!

Zoom followed me through all my interests.

I ZOOM with three writing groups, and my story tellers association.  Some friends and I do edits on ZOOM with the split screen option.
I ZOOM with church groups.
I ZOOM with family.
I do ZOOM doctor’s appointments.

In fact, I have my own sweet little ZOOM page, and enough storage in the cloud to record every event for the rest of my life.

Ever been to a zoom birthday party?  A dance party? Crazy fun!

I’ve seen singing groups zoom on line (though I don’t sing, so don’t worry, you’re safe!).

Enjoy this one by the Ambler Singers!

We have a weekly “friends” ZOOM dinner party on line, since we can’t go hang out at the diner.

I still hate the idea of ZOOMING.  I want desperately to see people in 3D again.

But I’ve come to respect ZOOM, and I’m sure glad to have it to keep in touch during this trying time.

How about you?  How do you keep in touch? I’d love to hear!

  2. Wow you've made very good use of Zoom! The only things I've done are attend my older son's wedding and an online screenwriters conference. My younger son, who is a master's student, finished up the school year on Zoom. He also done game nights with his friends.

  3. Christine, sounds like you are a Zoom expert. We played a game of Scattergories with my two daughters and their families on Zoom, and we've done our church small group on Zoom.
