Greetings from Down Under by Merrillee Whren

This is Uluru or Ayers Rock in Australia. I took this photo while we waited for the sunrise, but the cloud cover made the sunrise less than spectacular. This area of the Australian Outback receives very little rain, but we have had rain all three days while visiting here. We missed some things because of the rain, but we saw some water holes that were filled with water when normally they have very little water in them. The photo below shows one of them. It's hard to tell where the rock ends and the water begins because of the reflection.

I've done a lot of traveling in recent years, and little by little I'm trying to incorporate some of that travel into my stories. I have a mountain of information to use. Traveling is fun, fun, fun research.

  1. Beautiful pictures. My granddaughter was in Australia with her other grandfather this summer visiting her great grandmother. She sent me some gorgeous pictures. I'll be looking for more from you on your Facebook page. :) As for settings, I like unusual ones to offset the small-town US settings in the books I most often read.

    1. Josie, you're welcome. Somewhere in the last couple of days, I managed to put the camera on my phone on a setting that has made the photos less clear than normal. I must have hit a button and not realized it. I'm so disappointed in the photos I took the last two days because of that setting. Close-ups are pretty good, but distance shots are fuzzy. We are enjoying this trip so much!

  4. Jenny, I can imagine that summer was really hot there. It was hot for hiking, but not so hot that we couldn't go. Some of the trails are closed when it gets too hot.
