Mountain Climbing Anyone? ~ Jean C. Gordon

Anyone here climbed a mountain? Some years ago, my husband and I attempted to climb Mt. Marcy, the highest peak in New York--5,344 feet. It's in the Adirondack Mountains. However, we started too late in the morning and by late afternoon had gotten only about half way to the peak. Then, we got spooked by some paw prints we were afraid were bear prints and turned around. By the time we got back to the base, we were sure the prints were probably from a dog. 😌

Josh Lewis, the hero in my new No Brides Club book No Time for Adventure, is a much more experienced mountain climber. He's climbed mountains, scaled cliffs, and is a certified skydiving instructor. If it's an extreme sport, he's done it and probably offers it through his No Limits Adventure Tours. My heroine Victoria Hambersby isn't nearly as adventuresome. Or is she?

Released Today ~ August 7

The No Brides Club: A group of women friends makes a pact not to let love interfere with their careers. Could meeting the right man at the wrong time cause them to break their vows? A New Release the 1st Friday of each month through 2020 (All books can be read as standalones.)

Mental health nurse practitioner Victoria Hambersby is on the verge of completing her career dream to create a VA program that will help vets with physical and mental challenges stretch their abilities. Needless to say, Vic is completely blindsided when she is informed that she must combine her program with that of Joshua Lewis, the owner of “No Limits” extreme adventure company.

Since two of his sisters are also members of the No Brides Club, Josh is aware of the no romance before career goals motto. So while he finds Vic attractive, the focus needs to stay on finding a way to blend their proposal ideas. Which won’t be easy, as they both have baggage from the past coloring their viewpoints.

To get a better idea of what Josh’s company has to offer, Vic agrees to a weekend adventure, which despite herself, stirs her inner thrill-seeker. Surprisingly they may have more in common than they believe, but can they overcome their defensive barriers to let go of the past and reach for the future?

Five Reasons Why A Vacation Is Good For You by Josie Riviera

If you’ve read any of my books, you know I’m fascinated with discovering new places and traveling. As summer nears, many families are beginning to organize their travel plans.

Here’s five reasons why a vacation, whether it be a ‘staycation’ at home, or an elaborate holiday, are good for you:

First, you get to relax. So much of our time is focused on work that we need to spend a few days allowing ourselves to play.
Second, without job constraints, you’ll be able to enjoy quality time with your loved ones.
Third, plan a few hours during your vacation to do nothing but relax and soak up the sights. Allow your thoughts to wander, whether you’re fishing by a lake, or sitting in your backyard enjoying the sunshine.
Fourth, casing your mind from the strain of everyday life is proven to reduce stress.
Fifth, take the opportunity to learn new skills, whether enrolling in a French cooking class or learning how to water-ski. (I’ve never done either!)

And, remember that armchair travel is also a good way to escape to a new, exotic location.

What are your summer plans? Please leave your comments below.

If you enjoy a sweet romance set in a delightful location, Maeve, the sixth book in the popular Perfect Match Series, is now available. Grab your copy today and travel to the exquisite French island of Corsica.
I loved writing this book, and hope you will love it, too!

This is Maeve’s story…

He’s all business. She loves to laugh. When business conflicts with pleasure, what could possibly go wrong?

Maeve Doherty needed a hard-earned break from Ireland’s rainy weather, as well as caring for her younger brother. When the offer from Perfect Match to enjoy a week on an island of her choice arrived, she hesitated.

But not for long.

She’d always wanted to visit Corsica. Besides, who passed up free?
All right, so she'd spend the week with a match. On her dating profile, she’d added that she was a workaholic. Hopefully, so was he.

Edward Newell had one thing on his mind when he reached Corsica, and it didn't involve meeting a perfect match. Dating? Love? Romance? Not for him.
He was determined to find the picture-perfect location for his thriving hotel chain.

When unexpected attraction burns for the beautiful Maeve, and business conflicts with pleasure, what could possibly go wrong?

LISA by Denise Devine, Book #6, Beach Brides Series

Have the cold, snowy days of winter gotten you down?

Are you ready for spring?

Here's a fun diversion to get away from it all! Try a book set in an imaginary island in the Caribbean and experience all of the sights and sounds of a magical place. From the crystal-clear waters of the aqua ocean to the pink sand beaches, mountainous, rocky bluffs and deep, dark caves, Enchanted Island is the perfect escape for the winter blues.

It all starts with a message in a bottle...

Is it possible to find true love through a message in a bottle?

Spending a week on a Caribbean island with the members of the Romantic Hearts Book Club is like a dream come true for Lisa Kaye. On their last night, each woman writes a personal message to her “dream hero,” stuffs it in a bottle and tosses it out to sea. Lisa’s real dreams crash, however, when she returns home and loses not only her job but her boyfriend in the same day. Determined to start over, she returns to Enchanted Island, the idyllic place of her childhood to manage her aunt’s bed and breakfast hotel.

Fifteen months pass without a clue to the fate of her bottle. Then it happens. She receives an email from the man who found it and she doesn’t know what to do. Should she ignore it or take a chance at finding true love?

A Delicious and Easy Portuguese Cranberry Sauce Recipe by Josie Riviera

And, if you were in Portugal in November and wanted to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner, you would soon find that many of the ingredients are non-existent.

Looking for pecans to bake a pecan pie? Nope!
Canned pumpkin for pumpkin pie? Hah!
Cranberries for cranberry sauce? Nope, again. And certainly you won’t find canned cranberry sauce (my fave!) in any of the supermarkets.

However, you might find dried cranberries, although it’s interesting to note that the Portuguese do not have a name for cranberries, although the word “oxicoco” is sometimes used.

The good news is that you will be able to purchase a fresh turkey and roasted chestnuts from the many street vendors. Add a loaf of crusty Portuguese bread, a bottle of Port, and enjoy your Thanksgiving feast!

Here’s a recipe for “Portuguese” cranberry sauce. Note that dried cranberries and port wine are listed in the ingredients.

You will need:
Water to moisten
6 apples
Approximately 7 cups of dried cranberries
Port wine (I use most of the bottle!)
¾ cup brown sugar
Cinnamon and cloves to taste

Mix all ingredients and simmer on stove.

Do you have a favorite cranberry sauce recipe? Please share below.

Love to learn about other countries and holiday traditions? Snag a copy of A Portuguese Christmas, my sweet romance novella. Available on Amazon and all e-book stores, as well as paperback and audible.
