Mountain Climbing Anyone? ~ Jean C. Gordon

Anyone here climbed a mountain? Some years ago, my husband and I attempted to climb Mt. Marcy, the highest peak in New York--5,344 feet. It's in the Adirondack Mountains. However, we started too late in the morning and by late afternoon had gotten only about half way to the peak. Then, we got spooked by some paw prints we were afraid were bear prints and turned around. By the time we got back to the base, we were sure the prints were probably from a dog. 😌

Josh Lewis, the hero in my new No Brides Club book No Time for Adventure, is a much more experienced mountain climber. He's climbed mountains, scaled cliffs, and is a certified skydiving instructor. If it's an extreme sport, he's done it and probably offers it through his No Limits Adventure Tours. My heroine Victoria Hambersby isn't nearly as adventuresome. Or is she?

Released Today ~ August 7

The No Brides Club: A group of women friends makes a pact not to let love interfere with their careers. Could meeting the right man at the wrong time cause them to break their vows? A New Release the 1st Friday of each month through 2020 (All books can be read as standalones.)

Mental health nurse practitioner Victoria Hambersby is on the verge of completing her career dream to create a VA program that will help vets with physical and mental challenges stretch their abilities. Needless to say, Vic is completely blindsided when she is informed that she must combine her program with that of Joshua Lewis, the owner of “No Limits” extreme adventure company.

Since two of his sisters are also members of the No Brides Club, Josh is aware of the no romance before career goals motto. So while he finds Vic attractive, the focus needs to stay on finding a way to blend their proposal ideas. Which won’t be easy, as they both have baggage from the past coloring their viewpoints.

To get a better idea of what Josh’s company has to offer, Vic agrees to a weekend adventure, which despite herself, stirs her inner thrill-seeker. Surprisingly they may have more in common than they believe, but can they overcome their defensive barriers to let go of the past and reach for the future?

Flying by Merrillee Whren

When I fly on an airplane, I like a window seat so I can look out. Viewing the earth from 35,000 feet is often spectacular. When I look down, I try to figure out where I am. I often take photos while I'm flying. I'm going to share a few of my flying photos today.

Here's one of my favorites. It's a photo of Mt. Hood in Oregon sticking out above the clouds as my flight left Portland on my way to Spokane for one of my first book signings.

Here's an interesting photo I took on my way to an RWA Conference in NYC a couple of years ago. It's the shoreline of one of the Great Lakes looking into Canada.

I love to look at the clouds while I fly. These are some amazing clouds formations.

More clouds and one of the engines that was keeping us up in the air.

Here's the coastline of Europe as we flew from Spain to England.

If you look in the left hand side of the photo below, you can see the White Cliffs of Dover on the coast of England. I barely got my camera ready before we flew past them.

I not only like to fly to visit places, but I like to fly when I write. I fly by the seat of my pants. I know something about my characters and the situation that starts the story, but the rest is as much an adventure as looking out the window on a flight from the beginning to the end.

Do you like to fly?

I'm giving away a copy of the first book in my Front Porch Promises series to one person who leaves a comment. I'll draw the winning name on Father's Day, June 18, 2017 at 9PM MST.

RWA...Okay! by Ginny Baird

The day this blog publishes, I’ll be finishing up my time at RWA 2015. RWA stands for Romance Writers of America. It’s a professional organization that supports those who write romance as well as the genre in general. I’ve been a member for several years now and have learned so much from my fellow authors. There’s no group more capable of sharing and caring than a bunch of romance writers!

Each year, RWA hosts an annual conference in some enticing location. This year’s event is being held in New York City. I look forward to attending the informative workshops on romance publishing and marketing, but most of all I’m excited about meeting many folks in person that I’ve only connected with online. One wonderful thing about the Internet is it provides a way for people living far apart to connect with each other. I’ve been fortunate to meet many other writers this way, including the very talented ladies of this writing cooperative, Sweet Romance Reads. I’ll be rooming with two of them, and sharing meals and meetings with others during my five days in New York. What fun!

This photo is of me signing books in Atlanta at RWA 2013.

On the final night of the conference, a group of us will also attend the famed Rita Awards, a celebration honoring the recipients of the genre’s highest award for excellence in romance fiction. One winner will be chosen in each category (such as novella or historical fiction), and it’s such a joy to see the winners bubbling over with excitement.

The morning this blog posts, the excitement will be over and I’ll be packing my bags for a quick twenty-four-hour visit with my two daughters who live in Brooklyn: a definite highlight of my trip! Then it will be off on a full day’s train ride that will carry me home. Have you ever attended a professional conference? If so, what was it like, and what part of it did you enjoy most? I look forward to reading your responses when I return and will award a $10.00 Amazon Gift Card to one person who shares their experiences, or comments on mine at RWA 2015! The winner will be selected on Tuesday.
