I’ve loved to dance since I was a little girl. I didn’t live in a world that provided ballet
or tap lessons, but I loved to dance to the beat of my own drum, as my mom used to say. Then I danced my heart out watching “American Bandstand”
with Dick Clark and hopping around the room with my big sister doing the
Bristol Stomp and the Twist. Fun.
When I was in sixth grade, my mother signed me up for a “Ballroom
Dancing” class after school, where I diligently learned the Box Step, the Cha Cha, and a poor excuse for a waltz. I tried to learn the polka, but the world
was not ready for that yet. I did NOT say I had dancing talent, just the
LOVE of dance!
The girls loved it, the boys not so much!
Later in life, I joined many dance classes and clubs for the
pure enjoyment of it. I learned Square Dancing,
Contra Dancing, Country Line Dancing, and Latin Dancing. One of my favorites was “Ceili Dancing”, the
Irish dances that are done in a group (similar to Square Dancing) with specific
steps and routines that celebrate my Irish heritage. Exhilarating and fun. I have Irish music in my heart.
The heroines (and sometimes the heroes) in my books like to
dance too!
Since it’s March, the month of the Irish, I’m celebrating my
sweet romance novella, “Kelly’s Kiss”.
In this story, my dog rescuing heroine, Kelly, is an avid Ceili dancer. I had so much fun writing her story.
How about you? Are
you a dancer (even an uncoordinated one like me)? I’d love to hear.
And check out “Kelly’s Kiss” to celebrate St. Patty’s Day! And dance!

Hi Christine, I love to dance, too, but I have trouble with anything that requires specific steps. I'm a freelance dancer. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteI love dancing and started taking classes at 4. I’ve taken tap, jazz, ballet, hula, belly dancing, and even was on pointe. Unfortunately, never took ballroom, but I lived in Scotland and learned ceilidh dances.
