Many of us have special projects/things that are near and dear to our hearts. For me, Quilts of Valor is definitely one of those organizations, but I am currently involved in a very special fundraiser for Alzheimer's called The Longest Day. June 20th is that day. A day specifically set aside for Alzheimer awareness and raising funds for research. In the US, Alzheimer's Disease is the 6th leading cause of death. That means most of us probably know someone or multiple someones who have battled this disease or lost someone to it. In 2020, my agent's grandmother died from Alzheimer's. Six years ago a dear friend (Lisa Child) lost her mother to Alzheimer's. And, another dear friend's mother is currently in a memory care unit slowly losing her battle to Alzheimer's. When Honey died (agent's grandmother) myself and two author friends (Lisa Childs & Kat Brookes) wanted to do something. This disease is so heart-wrenching and is aptly called the longest goodbye.
We each wrote a sweet, small town romance of between 20k-25k and are donating our proceeds to the Alzheimer's Association (world's largest non-profit funding Alzheimer's research) to help find a cure. Book 3 – A LOVE WORTH HOLDING ON TO by Kat Brookes Professional bull rider Tucker McGraw fell in love with Jenni Lee Sanders in high school. That love grew while traveling the rodeo circuit together.
