Flying by Merrillee Whren

When I fly on an airplane, I like a window seat so I can look out. Viewing the earth from 35,000 feet is often spectacular. When I look down, I try to figure out where I am. I often take photos while I'm flying. I'm going to share a few of my flying photos today.

Here's one of my favorites. It's a photo of Mt. Hood in Oregon sticking out above the clouds as my flight left Portland on my way to Spokane for one of my first book signings.

Here's an interesting photo I took on my way to an RWA Conference in NYC a couple of years ago. It's the shoreline of one of the Great Lakes looking into Canada.

I love to look at the clouds while I fly. These are some amazing clouds formations.

More clouds and one of the engines that was keeping us up in the air.

Here's the coastline of Europe as we flew from Spain to England.

If you look in the left hand side of the photo below, you can see the White Cliffs of Dover on the coast of England. I barely got my camera ready before we flew past them.

I not only like to fly to visit places, but I like to fly when I write. I fly by the seat of my pants. I know something about my characters and the situation that starts the story, but the rest is as much an adventure as looking out the window on a flight from the beginning to the end.

Do you like to fly?

I'm giving away a copy of the first book in my Front Porch Promises series to one person who leaves a comment. I'll draw the winning name on Father's Day, June 18, 2017 at 9PM MST.

  1. Merrillee, I love the photos of the clouds. They are beautiful. I, too, am a punster. I've tried being more organized but it just doesn't work for me. Great post.

  2. I have never flown. I don't like heights and since I saw a bridge between 2 mountains in CA...........not sure I want to travel in mountains.
I do like your pictures of the clouds though. If I ever have to fly, I will try to get distracted by something interesting like making pictures from the plane.

    1. Brenda, the only bad thing about flying, in my opinion is how they've made the seating less comfortable because they've added more seats.

  3. I love to fly--much better than driving for me. And I tend to be a pantser, also. :)

    1. Thanks, Robbye. Flying is fun as long as there are no long delays or you miss a flight because of them.

    1. Linda, flying has changed. It is a bit of a hassle going through security, but we are on the precheck list. So that makes it easier.

  10. I love to fly and when I do I have to have the window seat on the left side of the plane. I have similar pictures of the clouds too. I love my sunrise/sunset ones too.

    1. Sonnetta, as long as I get a window, I don't care which side I'm on.
