Time: It Drags, It Gallops, It Flies by Donna Fasano

Time. Life is marked by it. Although each of us has a finite amount, all of us look at time differently. Some people waste it while others pack each moment with what they feel is useful doing. I woke up this morning with TIME on my mind. How have I spent mine? How will I fill the hours and minutes of this bright, sunny June day? Am I better off racing through it with gusto, accomplishing feats that no one thought were possible? Or should I take an ambler’s approach that allows the smelling of roses, the appreciation of sunsets?

Here are some quotes regarding time. Many are profound; others, not so much. All of them are worth a little time.

The future is something everyone reaches at a rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is. ~C.S. Lewis

Patience and time do more than strength or passion. ~Jean de La Fontaine

The trouble is, you think you have time. ~Buddha

Time is what we want most but what we use worst. ~William Penn

If you love life, don’t waste time. For time is what life is made of. ~Bruce Lee

The time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted. ~John Lennon

When was the last time you did something for the first time? ~unknown

The bad news is, time flies; the good news is, you’re the pilot. ~Michael Althsuler

Time is like the ocean; you can hold only a little in your hands. ~unknown

Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters. ~Margaret Peters

Time is the longest distance between two places. ~Tennessee Williams

Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent, and not enough time on what is important. ~Stephen Covey

Here are my two favorite quotes… neither came attributed to anyone:

A cup of coffee shared with a friend is happiness tasted and time well spent.

Take time to do what makes your soul happy.

Have any of these famous (and in some cases, unknown) people taught me anything about time and how it should be spent? Not really. But I think the point of all this is to realize that time is ticking. That might sound clichéd, but it’s true. All of us should pause every now and then to take stock of how we’re spending our time.

I’d like to know what you think. Should we be packing more doing into our days? Is leisure time a waste of time? What, exactly, is worthy of our precious time?

  2. I agree with Delene. The coffee/friendship quote is my favorite. Thanks for sharing such an inspirational quote in July when I was thinking 2015 was flying by!

  3. I think it's about balance. I like to feel like I'm accomplishing something with my time, but you also need time to just relax and do nothing.
