Have you ever thought about how many romantic movies are defined by a particular quote? Let me throw out a few examples to jog your memory.
"As you wish." ~ The Princess Bride
"You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you." ~ Pride and Prejudice
"I'm also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her." ~ Notting Hill
"I'll never let go, Jack." ~ Titanic
"You make me want to be a better man." ~ As Good as It Gets
Hearing these lines can instantly conjure up the movie scene they belong to. You may have pictured Julia Roberts standing in front of Hugh Grant in the middle of a bookstore, or recalled Kate Winslet clinging to a board with Leonardo DiCaprio braving the frigid waters by her side (poor Jack!). It's amazing how powerful words are—even years later—when they're spoken as declarations of love.
One of my favorite quotes happens to come from my latest book, Tropical Kiss and Tell. The characters, Micah and Lucy, are best friends who grew up together, drifted apart, then realized they'd always been in love with each other. Here's the defining moment when Micah shares his heart with Lucy:
"Being with you is like watching the sun set. You know what's going to happen and you don't expect anything new because you've seen it before, but it still surprises you with its beauty. You bring that kind of wonder into my life every day."
