Wow, the summer is flying by so fast! I'm not sure where the time is going, but I wish it would slow down just a bit.

I've just finished writing the second to last book in my Sullivan K9 Search and Rescue Series. I've recently uploaded the 5th and 6th books in audio format, as well. Which got me thinking. How many of you enjoy listening to audio books?

I never used to, so this is a new era of reading for me. I wish I had listened to audiobooks back when I was working full time and had a 45 minute commute to and from work each day. Think about how many books I could have listened to during that time? Hundreds. Maybe even a thousand! 

Alas, I am late to the party. But better late than never, right? 

For me, working on a screen all day writing, I have learned to embrace audiobooks. No squinting at a page or a screen. I sit back and listen. It's relaxing, except when I'm listening to romantic suspense. Then I'm trying to guess who the bad guy is. 

I now have 28 of my books in audio format with human narrators. It's expensive for me, but I love them so much I think it's worth it.

If you haven't tried an audiobook, you may want to consider it. Chirp features audiobooks on sale for low prices. I also have my audiobooks for sale on my website for $5.99 each. That's only one dollar more than most ebooks out there. What can it hurt to give one a try?

Favorite Romance Tropes by Laura Scott

 

Good morning!

I'm here to talk about romance tropes! These are those favorite hooks that help push our characters together when they normally would not be in the same room together, so that they may fall in love. 

Some examples of tropes are: 

Secret Identity

Friends to More

Secret Baby

                                        Amnesia

                                         Fake Engagement

                                         Bodyguard

                                         Best Friend's sister/brother

                                         Grumpy/Sunshine

There are many more, but do you see what I mean? These are all ways authors set up their stories to bring their characters together. Do you have a favorite trope? I'd love to hear them.

In all my years of writing (over twenty!) I have used most of these tropes, except for one. Fake Engagement. For whatever reason that one has not worked for most of my suspense stories.

There are times when reading a print or kindle isn't practical. Still, we all want to escape those downtimes like... oh, maybe waiting in a doctor's office? Or that long commute home through endless traffic? Especially when the radio is giving more commercials than music. Or those road trip with endless miles and no radio signal at all?

Today, I'm here to talk about another way to read, using your auditory senses. That's right, I'm here to talk about audiobooks.

Hands-Free Reading

This is where audiobooks are golden. Want to escape the traffic on the highway, long waits for an appointment, or to pass the time while waiting for your kids game practice to get over? Maybe conditions aren't prime to crack open a book, or your e-reader device is on low battery.

Maybe you're not too sure about audio. If that's the case, I've made up a few reasons to give books on audio a try.
