Naan Recipe (without Yogurt) by @Donna_Fasano

Using a few simple ingredients that you probably already have on hand, you can make delicious, light, and chewy flat bread. Many Naan recipes use yogurt, but I rarely have plain yogurt in my fridge. So, I’ve come up with this recipe. I hope you’ll give it a try.

Naan Recipe

Ingredients

·        1/3 cup warm water

·        1/2 teaspoon sugar

·        1 teaspoon instant yeast

·        2 cups all-purpose flour

·        1 1/2 tsp salt

·        3 tablespoons almond milk or plain milk

·        1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

·        1 tablespoon olive oil + some extra for brushing

Instructions

1.    In a mixing bowl, combine water, sugar, and yeast. Cover and let it stand for 10 minutes at warm place.

2.    In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, milk, vinegar, olive oil, and the yeast mixture.

3.    Stir to combine until dough comes together. Knead for about 5 minutes until dough is smooth and silky.

4.    Divide the dough into six equal pieces. Roll each piece in a ball. Cover dough balls with a damp cloth and let rise for 1 hour.

5.    Heat a large skillet over a medium-high heat.

6.    Use a rolling pin to roll the dough balls into flat ovals that are 1/4-inch thickness. Place an oval into the heated skillet. Cook the Naan bread until it begins to bubble and turn golden. Flip the bread and cook the other side. Brush with some olive oil. Repeat the process until all 6 of the Naan is cooked. Serve warm.
