Women's History Month by Donna Fasano

Women are awesome! We are politicians, composers, artists, and athletes. We’re scientists, teachers, and CEOs. Women do it all, and March is the month to celebrate us

Meet Savitribai Phule, the woman who helped found the first school for girls in India.

Have you heard of Rachel Carson, marine biologist, conservationist, and author? I hadn’t… until now. She was an influential American scientist.

Born in Dorset, England in the 1700s, Mary Anning was the first to discover a complete skeleton of a Plesiosaurus at a time when the Geological Society of London refused to admit women.

I was fascinated to learn about Brazilian born composer Chiquinha Gonzaga. The child of a freed black slave and a high-ranking military man, Chiquinha composed her first piece of music at age eleven.

Learn about Dr. Kakenya Ntaiya’s efforts to empower girls and improve Kenyan communities.

I thank Google Arts and Culture site for all of this wonderful information. Click here to join the celebration of the many women who have contributed much—in the past AND the present. Is there a fascinating woman in your life? Celebrate her by leaving a comment below.
