Here's some fun facts:
In ancient Greece, the Greeks covered their bread with herbs, cheese, and oils, and some believe this is the beginning of pizza.
Later on, the Romans flavored their dough with cheese, honey and bay leaves.
The pizza we all know and love began in Italy as a Neopolitan flatbread, using only mozzarella cheese.
The first pizza parlor in the U.S. opened in Little Italy, NY, in 1905.
To help celebrate, I'm sharing an easy
Deep-dish Sausage pizza recipe:
Ingredients:
1 lb bulk Italian pork sausage
Vegetables of your choice (mushrooms, green pepper, onions, etc.)
1 8 oz can pizza sauce
6 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
2 Roma chopped tomatoes
Olives and green onions if desired.
Directions:
- Heat oven to 400°F. Spray 9-inch square pan with cooking spray. Heat 10-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook sausage until no longer pink. Stir in vegetables and pizza sauce.
- Unroll dough in pan. Press in bottom and up side of pan, folding edge under to form crust. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of the cheese evenly in bottom of crust. Spoon hot sausage mixture over cheese. Top with remaining 1 cup cheese, then the tomatoes and olives.
- Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Sprinkle with onions. Let stand 5 minutes. Cut pizza into wedges and serve.
My sweet romance novella contribution to the Sweet Christmas Kisses 3 Bundle is
Candleglow and Mistletoe. In one scene, Noelle Wentworth, the heroine, shares a pizza with the hero and Hollywood stuntman, Gabe Waters, after a major mishap which threatens to disrupt Noelle's career as a concert pianist. Fortunately, there's a happily ever after! :)

We like deep dish or at least a thick crust. My favorite would be Hawaiian pizza. We put ham and pineapple and we like to add some bacon! The perfect combo!
ReplyDeleteMy son LOVES Hawaiian pizza with ham and pineapple. Great idea with bacon, also, Valerie.
