My lil' sweet pea - Astrid |
Come on, admit it. All of us
have trouble falling asleep sometimes. I searched the Net to find some
LifeHacks that work. (What’s a LifeHack? It’s a strategy or technique that
helps to more efficiently manage one’s time and daily activities.) So here are
some proven methods of how to fall asleep.
Set a Formal Bedtime –
Hey, you give your
school-aged children a set bedtime; do the same for yourself. A set bedtime
helps your brain manage its melatonin and serotonin, and also helps balance
your circadian rhythm.
Keep your Bedroom Cool –
When you sleep, your body temperature
drops. Allowing cool (not cold!) to circulate gives you the opportunity to
snuggle up and not become so hot that you wake up. This is proven science!
Drink Warm Milk –
Psychologists have speculated
that drinking warm milk before bed promotes falling asleep. Choosing milk over
an alcoholic choice will also have you feeling better in the morning, too.
Eat Some Turkey Before
Bed –
Cut Out Caffeine –
I can’t drink caffeinated
beverages (coffee, tea, soda) after twelve o’clock noon or my sleep in
disrupted. Your tolerance may vary, but cutting the caffeine by a specific time
each day will help you fall asleep faster.
Buy Some Blackout Curtains –
Light seeping through the
window can disturb your sleep. Invest in blackout curtains. They’re a great way
to keep your room dark and help you sleep better.
Read A Good Book –
This is probably my favorite
tip! I read every night before falling asleep. Incorporating reading into your sleep
routine helps your body and mind relax so that falling asleep is easier.
So there are my LifeHacks on
how to fall asleep. What tips would you add? Please leave a comment below!
Thanks!

Thanks for the excellent tips, Donna. I especially like reading a good book. And, I've heard that people should turn off their electronic devices--computers, phones, etc.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great tip, Josie. I hate it when I'm just drifting off to sleep and someone sends me a text message. Turning off the phone, if you can, is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI turn off sound for Notifications at bedtime (twitter, email, texts) but leave the ringer on in case of an emergency call. People know if they want to get hold of me, they call!
DeleteSleep is super important, and I appreciate your blog today, Donna. Thanks!
Hmm if I read a really good book, I keep reading!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I fall asleep after a few pages, hmm...hmmm...
I find that drinking tea before bed helps me fall asleep.
