Back to School! By Christine Bush

I love September.  Cooler weather, colorful leaves and "pumpkin everything" are part of it.  But mostly, it’s time for “Back to School”.

I spent many, many years as a classroom teacher. September meant decorating bulletin boards, sorting and counting books, and sharpening pencils, in my day.  Today teachers include counting laptop chargers and uploading files.

Every year was a new beginning.  There was a true excitement in the air.

Today my students are taller (I am an adjunct college professor), but the feeling is the same. A new school year is the start of new ideas, new opportunities, new students.  I love this.

With a lifetime in the classroom (or these days, on zoom), it’s no surprise that teaching is a very important profession to me.  It’s no surprise that several of my books have centered around a teaching heroine (and/or hero).  I love to write (and read) about teachers.

The kids are heading back to school, and it’s a great time to pick up an entertaining book to enjoy with a cup of coffee (or tea!)  Check out these titles and let me know what you think! A salute to teachers!

                                            Love, Julie

Love, Julie - Kindle edition by Bush, Christine. Romance Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Set in 1890 Montana, this romantic mystery follows Julietta Brightingham who forsakes her heiress life in NYC to avoid an arranged marriage and takes a post as a teacher in a one room schoolhouse in a small Montana time.  Then there’s the sheriff…..

                                           Christmas Daisy

Christmas Daisy - Kindle edition by Bush, Christine. Literature & Fiction Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Set in current day Philadelphia, Daisy returns from mission work in Africa and takes a post at an unusual alternative school in downtown Philadelphia during the holiday season. The kids have issues, and everyone wants them to have a great Christmas.  But Daisy has issues, too.  Life has been a challenge and she really detests this time of year. But she loves her students, so she must open her heart.

                                            Lucy's Laugh

Lucy's Laugh - Kindle edition by Bush, Christine. Romance Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

Also set in current day Philadelphia, Lucy LOVES her teaching job so much she’s become an absolute workaholic.  There’s plenty of work to do, of course, and she doesn’t mind. Between her job and her volunteering at the community center in her neighborhood, there’s practically nothing else in her life. The principal hires more staff, with the intention of giving her too dedicated teacher a break. Lucy is NOT happy about losing some of her responsibilities, especially since there’s something secretive about the new hire who seems to know nothing but lesson plans or classroom management.  But he’s tall, dark, and handsome and actually pretty nice.  But what is her doing here in her world?

                                                                      ++++++++

I hope this September brings all good things!   What does Fall mean to you?  Keep in touch! I’d love to hear from you!

Free Book Day ~ Jean C. Gordon

His Thing about Cats ~ A Paradox Sweet Romance Novella

Hurtling down a mountain on a sheet of ice at 90 mph is nothing to Ty Johnson. That's why he's a former Olympic bobsled champion. Holding a cute little fluffball cat for an endorsement—well, that's a deal-breaker.

Dr. Julianna Hill wants to help Ty work through his issues, but she has to say no. At least professionally. She can't deny the immediate attraction, and there's no way she's going to let a man jeopardize the career she's finally starting to build, especially since returning to her childhood hometown.

It's International Buy a Book Day! ~ Jean C. Gordon

Yep. It's a real holiday. And while, by no means should anyone limit their book buying to one day a year, sadly, it appears some people might.

This day is celebrated to raise awareness about the dying book-buying and book-reading culture. Did you know that the U.S. adult population that read books has declined by 7% over the past decade? Yes, buying books and reading them have been a declining habit among Millennials and Gen-Zs. This is exactly what Buy A Book Day aims to remedy.

We can, and do, all do our part by encouraging reading by our example, giving books as gifts, volunteering at events or places--like my church's Book Nook--where books are available for at a small cost or for free--or reading programs at our local schools. A friend of mine buys a box of children's books for 6 for $1 and hands then out with candy at Halloween. We've done a table at our town's annual festival where we give out books from the Book Nook shelves for the asking.

We can probably do more. What other ways or ideas do you have for sharing your love of reading?

We made it to September! What was the best part of your summer? Roxanne Rustand

So many parts of the country experienced severe weather this summer that the news on television and in the papers was overwhelming. I hope you were able to escape all that, and that you have lots of happy memories from the summer of 2022!

Ours centered on family and friends and simply being grateful for each other, as we hit our 46th anniversary on August 26th. 💕

I have a couple of happy bits of news to share, though!

COLD CASE DANGER, the first book in my new Wyoming Danger series, is available for pre-order as of today!

Here's a quick peek:

Janna figures she has everything under control.  But maybe not…

She can handle raising her daughter alone. Refurbish at least part of a remote mountain lodge and derelict cabins in time for tourist season income. Care for her increasingly forgetful mom.

But when her ragamuffin dog digs up human remains behind a cabin and she starts seeing a shadowy figure lurking in the surrounding forest, danger mounts.

Will her new boarder and his troubled son prove helpful, or is she completely on her own?

Here is a link so you can read more about it on Amazon!

My other happy news is that our two newest grandbabies will be baptized this month, and we are so happy!
I don't yet have a photo of both in their outfits, but here
is one of them.

Isn't it interesting how even an eight-month-old can have such strong opinions?

Her momma made sure there were no itchy or scratchy seams, but as soon as the dress was on, she burst into tears--perhaps overwhelmed at the profusion of pearls, lace, and ruffles.  As far as she's concerned, I imagine a nice play outfit would suit her just fine for her big day.  😇

Do you have some fun or special memories from this summer?  Leave a comment, and you'll be in a drawing for a free e-copy of my Christian romantic suspense  FINAL WITNESS!

Wishing you all a beautiful autumn,

Roxanne Rustand

Lyn Cote Asks about Your School Days!

Every fall I think of school. Of course, we all do! The stores are full of pens, pencils, paper and a whole lot more! School has changed since we went. Computers have changed everything except for the fact that students are all kids. And kids will be kids.

One of my fondest memories of school is my third grade crush at Glen Flora School. Oh, my, Benji had the cutest curly blond hair. And I knew he liked me because he would stand in line behind or in front of me. And he’d look at me, grin and then fall straight the floor—not faint, just fall like a tree.

Oh, Mrs. Johnson didn’t like this! But I was so impressed. Fortunately Glen Flora was an older school and had wooden floors or Benjie might have gotten a concussion all for love of me. ‘-)

So what do you remember? Please share a fond memory from your school days. Did you have a sweetheart in grade school? A favorite teacher? A fun game on the playground? Can any of you recall one of those jump-rope chants? I can’t!–Lyn

Family Reunions in real life and books by Laura Scott

Good morning! How many of you have participated in family reunions? Me, for sure! Getting caught up with siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, while sharing great memories helps us to appreciate what we have. Before Covid, our family was getting together every two years. I truly miss those fun days and hope the virus cooperates so that we can get together again soon.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying writing reunions in my stories. It's so much fun to bring all the characters together after they've been apart for a long time. I did this in my Smoky Mountain Secrets series, bringing all the foster kids back together in Jayme's Journey. I had such a great response to this, that I decided to do something similar in my Called to Protect series. And while my Navy SEALs are technically not related, they are brothers in every other way.

Sealed with Valor is Nico and Ava's story, and when Ava gets in trouble, Nico needs his entire SEAL team to help get her back. Having all the guys back together was truly heartwarming. And after writing this story, I decided to add a Christmas Novella, but more on that next month. For now, the sixth book in my Called to protect series will be available on Tuesday Sept. 6, 2022

Sealed with Valor by Laura Scott $3.99

Pregnant and on the run!

Nico Ramirez has been searching for his teammate’s younger sister, Ava Rampart, for months. When he finally finds her, he’s stunned to discover she’s eight months pregnant. Her baby raises the stakes, and Nico knows he must protect them both from Simon, the man ruthlessly hunting Ava. When he realizes Simon has kidnapped Ava from the hospital, he needs the entire SEAL team to get her back.

Ava is hiding a terrible secret, one that has kept her running from Simon and from the police. She’s grateful for Nico’s determination to keep her safe, but when she suffers pregnancy complications, there is more than Simon to worry about. If she’s not careful, her baby could be born prematurely and may not survive. Resting while on the run proves impossible. Ava places her faith in God and in Nico. She doesn’t doubt Nico’s ability to protect her, but she may have underestimated the threat he poses to her heart.
