A Twist to “Like Mother Like Daughter” by Pat Simmons

During my last book tour for the summer, my husband and I made a pit stop to our daughter’s place in Houston. Before returning home, I experienced a memory lane moment.
Although Simi’s shy of thirty years old, the memories of her antics growing up are still fresh in my mind. What mother can’t relate to their little girls asking, “Mommy, can I have this, or that?” If the item wasn’t poisonous, physically harmful, or something downright embarrassing, most times I would say, “Sure.”
It’s amazing how children can go treasure hunting throughout their own homes. Simi would raid drawers, boxes, even the basement for everything from my jewelry, sweaters, scarfs, to makeup, and more.
This time when I left my daughter’s apartment, I’m the one who walked away with some goodies, and I didn’t have to take part in a scavenger hunt. First, let me say my daughter should seriously consider purchasing stock in cosmetic companies. When it comes to hair, nails, and makeup, she nails it—pun definitely intended.

Simi had a stockpile of stuff either she didn’t like, want, or forgot about. Because of her overstock, she gave me a pair of fashionable sunglasses that I’ve been rocking for a couple of weeks. Plus, I’m now the depository for all her makeup, like the extra tube of orange (coral) liquid lipstick. She was about to return it, because she didn’t like the shade.

Check out my goodies that include makeup Simi gave me for Mother’s Day: blush, eye shadow compact, liquid lipstick, some type of dust highlight for the cheeks, or eyes—I’m still trying to figure out which one.

So now, in a few days, when LATE SUMMER LOVE is released, I can go live on FB and Instagram looking glamorous.

  1. How fun! You look great in those sunglasses! My mom actually takes some of the clothes I don't want anymore as hand-me-ups. ;) Congrats on your upcoming release!

  2. Love the sunglasses, Pat. I'm in the grandmother stage now, and my granddaughters love looking into drawers and finding little treasures. It's such fun to watch what they consider special. Great post. Congrats on the new release.
