What could be more important than our health? Face it, we’re
only as good as we feel.
February is American Heart Month. And what’s one of the worst
things you can do for your heart?
Stagnation.
While we live in a day and age of fitness clubs on practically
every block, we also are spending more time sitting behind computers or talking
and texting on our mobile phones. It’s amazing how fast the hours go by without
our noticing it after getting absorbed in the computerized world of
communications and instant information.
That’s why it’s a good idea to be
mindful of the amount of time you chalk up each day glued in a chair while
pecking away at the keyboard with either your digits or your thumbs. Keeping a
timer on hand allows you to forget about the clock so you can focus on your
work and rely on a device to let you know when it’s time to break.
Walk in place. Run in place. Knock out some push-ups. Jog
around in a circle. Dance.
Do anything to move the body and keep the circulation
energized.
And if you’re a chronic reader like me, be sure to take your
e-reader to the gym with you or buy a Flip-clip to hold the pages of a paper
book open while you peddle away.
Have a happy American Heart Month!

Excellent post, Alicia. You are so right! Thanks for the helpful tips.
ReplyDeleteGood advice, Alicia. As authors, we commit a certain amount of time to writing each day. Learning to take breaks is something I'm still working on.
