Just Say Thank You... by Christine Bush

It’s always been pretty easy for me to give gifts to people who matter to me.  I like to do favors, or to help people in need.  When I notice something good about someone who crosses my path, it’s easy to give a compliment.  I believe in all that.

But it’s hard to receive the same.  Receiving gifts can make me squirm.  Asking for help is about as easy as moving a mountain. I can actually feel my fast turn as red as a tomato if I receive  a compliment.

“Gee, I don’t know what to say,” I answered to a friend who gave me a compliment once.  “Well, just say thank you and shut up. That’s enough,” she teased.  I know she was right, but it was hard.

Recently, someone gave me a most wonderful gift. Bigger than I could even imagine.  It was a total surprise.  It was over the top.  It REALLY made a difference in my life.  I still struggle with feeling that I “deserve it”, or that it came with no strings attached.  Just a loving, caring, wonderful gift.  I am so, so, so grateful and amazed.

 

All I could say was “Thank you.”  I hope it’s enough.

And I hope I live long enough to someday give a gift like that to somebody when they need it.
