Cookies for the Holidays by Merrillee Whren

These are cookies that my older daughter has made. Both of my daughters make these cookies every year. It's a tradition we started when they were just little girls. They used to love to decorate the cookies. After they got older, they weren't much into the decorating until they became adults and had a home of their own. I'm sure there are dozens of recipes for sugar cookies, but I believe the recipe that I got out of an old, old cookbook is the best sugar cookie recipe around. Many folks who have eaten these cookies will agree. I know we just shared a lot of delicious recipes during our Recipe Exchange Party, but I only shared my grandmother's chocolate caramels recipe. Here's a bonus recipe for the holidays.

Basic Sugar Cookies
4 cups flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 T. milk

Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Cream together butter and sugar: add eggs and beat until smooth and fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Add flour mixture and milk alternately. Chill cough until easy to handle. Roll out dough on floured board and cut to desired shape with cookie cutter. Decorate as desired.

What is your favorite cookie recipe?

I'll be giving away a copy of Montana Match to one person who leaves a comment.
