Does Age Matter? ~ Jean C. Gordon

Not your age, but the age of the characters in romance novels. My first Indigo Bay Romance, Sweet Entanglement, I went with the usual 20-something characters. But with my second and third books, I jumped up a generation. Now, I'm planning my next No Brides Club series book and trying to decide whether to make my characters in their mid-30s or mid-40s.

My mission for you is to tell me what your character age preference is--if you have one.

Indigo Bay Christmas Romances

“I mean ordinary things people who are dating know,” Amanda said.

“All right, ask me something.”

“How old are you?”

Eric hesitated, glancing sideways at her. Amanda couldn’t be older than her mid-30s.

“It’s not a trick question.”

“Forty-two.”

“Your IMBd says 45.”

He puffed out a breath. “Okay 48. And up until five months ago, I smoked cigarettes.” That brought a grin to her face that quickly faded.

Jean C Gordon Asks What Are You Doing for Halloween?

Like so many other things, Halloween has taken on a different character this year. Trick or Treating, parties, school costume parades, haunted houses--many people are uncomfortable with these traditional activities in 2020. But that doesn't mean families can't celebrate the holiday.

Here's an idea the head of our church's Sunday School came up to take the place of our usual Haunted House the older kids put on for all the children in our village: a drive-in carved pumpkin competition. The pumpkins will be displayed in our church parking lot October 24 so families can drive around and pick the one they like best. The winner will get a yet-to-be-decided prize.

And no one will go home empty handed. Every child who attends in costume or not will receive a free book from the church Book Nook, where I volunteer. The Book Nook is also offering free Halloween costumes all month long. Many of the costumes are new, donated to the church by a local store after Halloween last year.

So, you know what I'm doing for Halloween. What are you doing?

And Keeping to a Holiday Theme . . .

It's Christmas in July

With these deals from me (Jean C. Gordon) and some of the other Sweet Romance Reads authors. I don't know if you're having the same heat wave we had, but I've found a way to beat the heat. Grab a copy of these holiday stories, find a cool spot, and conserve your energy by reading.

A Team Macachek Novella—New Release
Sparks fly from a Christmastime reunion of motocross racer Jesse Brewster and his ex-girlfriend Lauren Cooper. Being thrown together to plan the race team’s Christmas party reignites a flame Lauren thought she’d extinguished when she broke up with Jesse six months earlier. But will Jesse’s well-meaning secret Christmas gift—meant to help win her back—compromise the independence Lauren is fighting to establish? Is it, as she maintains, the wrong time for their love? This is the prequel to Sweet Entanglement.

TEAM MACACHEK: Fall in love with the strong women and fearless men of the motocross circuit.

A Team Macachek Novella

Bridget O’Brien lost her fiancé to a dangerous job. And, while she’d love to have a relationship like the one she lost, the last thing she wants is one with another man who willingly puts his life in danger. Luke Foster is a motocross racer whose track record with women runs short and no-strings-attached on both sides. He’d never seriously pursue a forever-after woman like Bridget.

All they want is a holiday week away. Bridget from her well-meaning family’s condolences about her planned Christmas Eve wedding and her memories of a future that won’t be. Luke from his family’s annual critique at which he and his life choices always fall short of expectations.

But, under the blue Caribbean skies, anything can happen.

The Donnelly Brothers
Pastor Connor Donnelly is done with romance. After proposing to his high school sweetheart, Natalie Delacroix, five years ago—and being turned down—he's putting all his time and energy into his community. He's determined to make the Christmas pageant he's directing a success. But family and friends are set on fixing up the good-looking bachelor in time for the holidays. And now that Natalie is back in Paradox Lake—and helping with the pageant—they might just succeed. Because working so closely with Natalie stirs up old feelings…and Connor starts to hope for a second chance with the one who got away.

THE DONNELLY BROTHERS:Hometown boys make good ... and find love

There’s nothing a Christmas kiss won’t cure. Except perhaps a shattered heart…
When Emmanuelle Sumter steps off the train in Cherish, South Carolina—a town simply glowing with the promise of Christmas—she finds herself praying God will help her find the broken pieces of her life. Shattered, like her beloved harp. Her dreams. And her trust in men.

Her friend Dorothy told her Cherish is a safe haven. But she never expected Dorothy’s brother, Deputy Nicholas Thompson, would relight the one thing she thought she’d lost forever. A spark of hope.

Not long ago, while Nicholas’ sister was in rehab, Emmanuelle’s voice and smile on his Skype screen held him together. After that, she seemed to disappear, an absence he felt keenly when his ex-fiancée left his faith in God dented but not broken.

Now she’s in Cherish, even more stunning in person. Yet she’s holding tight to a private pain she refuses to reveal. Nicholas resolves to be patient, vowing that he’ll never let anyone hurt her again. Even when her past rears its ugly head to destroy what’s left of her heart.

From USA Today bestselling author Josie Riviera comes a new contemporary Christian Romance series set in the small town of Cherish, South Carolina. These sweet and wholesome stories, where God is at the center, brim with love and laughter.

Are his arms a safe haven sent from God…or a Christmas promise waiting to be broken?

Christmas will never be the same for Joy Knight if Christian Andersen has his way. Not to be confused with a secret Santa, Christian and his family are busier than Santa's elves making sure the Lord's blessings are distributed to those less fortunate by Christmas day. Joy is playing the hand that life dealt her, rearing four children in a home that is on the brink of foreclosure. She's not looking for a handout, but when Christian rescues her in the checkout line; her niece thinks Christian is an angel. Joy thinks he's just another man who will eventually leave, disappointing her and the children. Although Christian is a servant of the Lord, he is a flesh and blood man and all he wants for Christmas is Joy Knight. Can time spent with Christian turn Joy's attention from her financial woes to the real meaning of Christmas--and true love? A Christian Christmas is a holiday novella to be enjoyed any time of the year.

She’s going to find her destiny this Christmas…
Preacher’s daughter, Janie Worthy, has spent years looking out for her father and siblings after the death of her mother. But as she watches her niece get married, Janie decides it’s time to get a life of her own. However, her plan stalls out before it can even begin…literally. On the way to her first date, her car decides to quit, leaving Janie stranded on the side of the road. A stranger on a motorcycle becomes her savior. Caleb Montgomery is gorgeous and sexy, and the short time they spend together on the side of the road might be the most romantic interlude Janie can remember. Of course, it’s all just a fantasy and soon Caleb is riding off into the night, never to be seen again.

Until he shows up again where she least expects him…right in her hometown of Shellwater Key. When Caleb decides to stay in town for Christmas, Janie can’t help but wonder if she is the reason. Except that would be crazy. People don’t fall in love in one night…Right? As the holiday spirit kicks into high gear, Janie must find the courage to move beyond past guilt to embrace the future and open the best Christmas present she could find.
