eBook Releases May 23rd. Preorder now!

Return to Indigo Bay this May!
Starting May 9, 2019 the Indigo Bay series continues with six new books in the spinoff Second Chance Romance series. Come fall in love with the small beach town that started it all...

Sweet Horizons
There’s nothing like a wedding to bring people together, but family dynamics can be complicated, especially newly blended ones.

Sonja Cooper is thrilled that her daughter Lauren is marrying Jesse Brewster and giving her a ready-made granddaughter in the irrepressible 3-year old Shelley. The fact that Jesse is also Sonja’s business partner in the launching of the Morrison Mansion B&B is just a bonus.

Custom bike shop owner Jeff Brewster is also delighted that his son Jesse is marrying Lauren and building a new family. The one awkward aspect is the unexpected attraction he feels towards Sonja. For although Sonja feels the same spark, having been burned in her divorce from Lauren’s father, she’s determined never to be dependent on a man again.

Then the Indigo Bay Business Association pits Sonja and Jeff against each other by having their businesses compete for the coveted “New Business of the Year Award.” All’s fair in love and war, but hearts don’t always listen!

This is the 3rd novel in the Indigo Bay Second Chance Romances series, but all books can be read as standalones.

Help Me (Jean C. Gordon) Plan My Next Indigo Bay Sweet Romance — Plus a Giveaway

For those of you who've read my first Indigo Bay sweet romance, Sweet Entanglement, you my remember the Epilogue was set at the wedding of the heroine Lauren's mother and the hero Jesse's father. I'm getting ready to start a new Indigo Bay romance that will be part of a 2019 second chance at love series.

Here's how you can help.

(1) Already knowing from Sweet Entanglement that Sonja and Jeff, the parents, will get married, would you still want t read their love story? It would pick up at the end of the main story in Sweet Entanglement, with backstory woven in for readers who haven't read it first.

(2) Are you good with a 49-year-old heroine and a 46-year-old hero?

Let me know in the comments. I'll randomly choose one reader to win a copy of the Sweet Romance Reads authors Sweet Christmas Kisses 5 bundle of 9 sweet romance novellas. Your choice of Kindle, Nook, Kobo, or iBooks copy.

Is three the charm?

Lauren Cooper is on her way to her life’s dream. She’s financed and finished college and law school all on her own. And she’s up for partner at the largest law firm in Indigo Bay. There’s nothing to stop her from concentrating everything on achieving that goal. Until Jesse Brewster, the man who broke her heart twice, shows up sleeping off the night before on the beach, and she’s called in to serve as his public defender.

Looking to make a new start after the racing accident that ended his lucrative motocross career and sent him spiraling into darkness, the former champion had envisioned an entirely different scenario if he ever saw Lauren again. That vision was more along the lines of the successful businessman he’d be once he rehabbed the seaside mansion he’s inherited from his uncle and sold it to open a custom bike shop.

Sparks fly between them, and Jesse vows to fan those sparks once he’s got the project successfully underway. But someone starts sabotaging it, putting Jesse behind on the deadline he has to meet to get the property off the Indigo Bay Planning Board’s condemned property list. And Lauren has a sick suspicion that her bosses are somehow involved.

Jesse and Lauren had once promised they’d wait for each other while they pursued their career dreams. Despite that broken promise, neither can deny the love that’s still between them. But now that they are on the cusp of reaching those dreams, are they willing to risk everything to renew that love?

Team Macachek: Fall in love with the strong women and fearless men of the motocross circuit.

Celebrating Romance Awareness Month with a New Release and Giveaway

Jean C. Gordon here celebrating Romance Awareness Month (August) with some fun data about modern-day romance and a giveaway of my latest book, Reuniting His Family, which is in stores now.

A couple of years ago, Zoosk.com, a romance social network, surveyed more than 2,300 Americans, including both singles and people in committed relationships. Here are some of their thoughts about modern-day romance:
  • 71% said their significant other is romantic, while only 41% of singles on the dating scene say the same about their "other."
  • 59% of couples said they’re satisfied with the amount of romance in their lives, whereas only 20% of singles said the same.
What’s people deem "romantic" changes as their status moves from "single" to "in a relationship."
  • Couples preferred a "hug and a kiss" (41%) over a romantic candlelit dinner (39%) as the most romantic gesture from their partner.
  • Singles, on the other hand, preferred a candlelit dinner (44%) over a hug and a kiss (32%).
  • And while taking out the garbage without being asked is appreciated, only 2% of couples and singles, respectively, said this qualifies as the most romantic thing their partner could do.
Americans agree that romance is important.
  • 78% of those polled agreed that they consider romance in a relationship to be "very important."
  • 20% said it is "somewhat important" and only 2% say it is "not important."

Now for your chance to win Reuniting His Family (Print or eBook; winner's choice). What do you find romantic? I'll pop back Wednesday morning and post the randomly selected winner in the comments.

Give Us a Smile

Today is World Smile Day, and my mission for the day is to put a smile on your face. So, here goes:
Q. Why does a chicken coop have two doors?
A. Because, if it had four, it would be a chicken sedan.
Now that I have you smiling, I’m going to tell you why you should keep smiling.

To Help Other People
According to a study from the Center for Functional MRI at the University of California at San Diego, when other people see a smile on your face (and vice versa), it activates the medial basotemporal lobes in the brain of the person who sees your smile and causes them to smile in return. By this simple act, you are improving their lives.

To Improve Your Life
Smiling can improve your life (and others lives) in numerous ways. It can:
  • Lower stress and anxiety. Researchers in the Department of Psychology at the University of Kansas gave study participants stressful tasks and asked half of the participants to smile while completing the tasks. Those people registered lower heart rates during stress recovery than the participants who weren’t encouraged to smile. Other studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, which reduces stress.
  • Boost your immune system. Hungarian researchers studied hospitalized children who were visited by storytellers and puppeteers who made them smile and laugh. These children had higher illness-fighting white blood cell counts than children who weren’t visited.
  • Make you more comfortable in unfamiliar situations. We all prefer the familiar. A study published in Psychological Science, the flagship journal of the Association for Psychological Science found that a happy mood removes the innate preference for familiar surrounding and makes people more comfortable in unfamiliar situations and surroundings.
  • Make you more attractive to others. This study reported in the European Journal of Social Psychology confirms what romance authors already know—a smile, grin, curve up of the corners of the mouth—all ramp up attraction between two people.
Giveaway

And here’s something else to make you smile. I’m giving away one print (US only) and one e-book copy of my October 4, release Mending the Motocross Champion to two lucky commenters (please state your preference).

Physical therapist Dana VanAlstyne’s dreams of a family were lost in the dust of a motocross racecourse. Although she’s filled her life with her work and church activities, it hasn’t filled the empty space inside her. Nor has it eased the heartache of being abandoned by a man who wasn’t ready for a wife and children. Now her dream is to open her own private practice. All she needs is the capital to make that happen.

Anton, “Mac,” Macachek may be the top professional motocross racer in the country but he still has one race that matters more to him: winning a championship at Unadilla Raceway and showing the hometown folks the bad boy did amount to something. But when a horrific accident sidelines those plans, he makes a deal with the woman he once loved with all his heart. A woman who abandoned him. If Dana will get him back in racing shape, he’ll fund her new practice. Then an even more dangerous risk is revealed. If Mac races again, he could die.

Does Dana have enough faith to risk her heart again? She loved Mac once, but feared he loved motocross racing more than he loved her. If she helps him mend his broken body, will it also mend her broken heart? Or will it all be lost again in the dust and danger of a motocross racetrack?
