Keeping Fit... by Christine Bush

The past few weeks have meant lots of changes and adaptations for everybody.  Lots to deal with, and different needs for everybody.

I’ve been “sheltering at home”, and teaching on line.  So far, so good, and learning all kinds of things about myself, my family, and the world.  And, I’ve gotten the chance to do some writing.
But one thing that has been missing has been my usual exercise.  I consider myself the queen of aqua aerobics, a three times a week swimmer at the YMCA in my town.  Which is closed.  I miss it.  Big time.

Being well into the “arthritic age”, my swimming has been a great deterrent for the aches and pains that want to creep up.  Having no pool is a disaster.

So I tried alternate exercise, which of course includes gravity.  I walked. Helped a bit, but can’t go fast enough to be an aerobic workout.

I tried yoga.  I tried exercises that were graciously presented on line. Many involved getting on the floor.  I’m a good candidate for those old ads, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.”

So then what?  Searching my memory, I recalled times when I did exercise while pregnant, to a vcr tape, singing and dancing my heart away.

Richard Simmons! The guy in the shorts. But I don’t have a VCR anymore, even if I could root through a box and find a tape.

I searched on You Tube.  Guess what? They are all there.  So I’ve been dancing (and exercising), Sweating to the Oldies, having a blast, and smiling at the memories the old songs bring. Thank you, Richard!

Where there’s a will there’s a way!  Exercise is so important.

My book listed below is a novella about a physical therapist. She, also, knows appropriate exercise is vital.  And of course, so is love. And puppies.  Lots of puppies.

A second novella listed is set in a community pool, a hunky hero who has to learn to swim.  I can't wait for the pool to be open again! But meanwhile.. I'm dancing away!  Enjoy!

What are you doing to keep fit during this time?  I’d love to hear.

Christine Bush is a USA Today Bestselling author of romance, romantic mystery, and suspense.  She can be found living in the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania with her husband and 2 lazy cats, and  wishing she was spending time with her 14 grandchildren.   When she’s not writing, she’s teaching Psychology at a local college, and working with clients in her private practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist. She loves to hear from readers and writers!
Christine's  brand new sweet romance novella is here!  Check out “Hannah’s Heart”, available in print and ebook. It’s the heartwarming story of Hannah and Grady, and I promise, there are LOTS of pets involved!

  1. Christine, my usual exercise is walking, and I've been able to do that more than usual, thanks to the lovely spring weather. But on rainy days I may check in with Richard Simmons. I was thinking about his workouts the other day. Thank you for the info!

  3. Christine, thanks for the memories. I used to do Richard Simmons, too. Then I walked with Leslie Sansone. I had been walking in our neighborhood with my husband, but the pollen made me cough, and no one wants to cough now. So I'm back to walking indoors. A few of us have been sneaking into Tucson and playing tennis, but our own courts open on Monday. We are so happy. So I'll be playing tennis 3 or 4 times a week. Now the pollen is making my eyes itch like crazy. I'll be glad when the desert quits blooming.
