Happy National Hamburger Day - @MagdalenaScott

In the interest of honesty and transparency, I'm writing this blog on an empty stomach. Not my best move.

How was I unaware all this time that May 28th is National Hamburger Day? Sheesh!

Well, I'm sure glad I wised up, and since I'm writing this on May 12th, I should be well-prepared with an appropriate observance, once the Official Day arrives. (It's 5:00 pm and all my lovely Angus ground beef is frozen hard as a rock. Sigh.)

Although I don't eat a lot of red meat, I love a good hamburger. I also love a good veggie burger, but as you probably know National Veggie Burger Day is June 5th.

How will you celebrate National Hamburger Day? Do you like to grill your burgers? Fry them in a pan? Bake them?

What is/are your ultimate side dish(es)?

And how do you top your burgers? The graphic above has a lot going on. I'm not sure I could gnaw a bite off that giant sandwich, but at the moment I'd be willing to try.

I wrote a fun cookout scene in Second Chances, Book 5 in The McClains of Legend, Tennessee series. Widowed Anne is back in Legend after decades away, and many of the McClain clan gather to welcome her, play croquet, and eat yummy cookout food!

  2. Hi Magdalena, I messed up and had my burger the day after Memorial Day. We had our first cookout with neighbors since the virus on Memorial Day. I actually had a hot dog, and my hubby had a burger. We had one burger left, and I ate it the next day. Like you, I don't eat much red meat anymore. I love potato salad with a grilled burger.

    1. That's okay, Merrillee. An early celebration is better than none at all. ;) Yes, potato salad is a great side! I had my burger for lunch, with a little serving of Cowboy Caviar, some cojack cheese, and a few corn chips (skipped the bun).

  4. I enjoy making turkey burgers that are mixed with Chipotle sauce. They take only a couple minutes to cook in the microwave and taste so much better than the ones at the fast food restaurants. I think I'll have one today!

  7. A good burger has lots of onion on it, either raw or grilled. Both suit me just fine! And of course a burger should have some baked beans on the side. Yum!
