A Few Facts About Mother's Day by Cindy Flores Martinez

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day, so I thought it would be fun to share a few facts about this special holiday.

Did you know…

—Anna Jarvis started Mother’s Day by campaigning to make it a holiday in 1905.

—President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the first Mother’s Day in 1914.

—Greeting card companies began creating Mother’s Day cards way back then.

—In the U.S., Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of every May.

—Around the world, Mother’s Day is celebrated on different dates.

—Mother’s Day is reportedly the biggest gift-giving holiday after Christmas.

—In case you’re wondering, Mother’s Day is more popular than Father’s Day. Sorry dads!

To all the Moms out there:

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

  3. But, Ann Jarvis didn't like that Mother's day was becoming so commercialized, so she tried to have that day cancelled. Research shows that Ann Jarvis thought that Mother's day should be recognized as a day to give thanks for mother's. Research also shows that she spent all of her savings and earnings in court trying to cancel mother's day. She fought in court until she died.

    1. I read about that. How fascinating! She made a comment about how easy it was to give mothers a greeting card or a box of chocolates when they deserved so much more. She was supposedly eventually placed in a sanatorium. Poor thing.
