On December 31, I wrote my resolutions. Exactly as I do every year. And every year I promise myself I will do my best to maintain them all year long. Usually I manage to reach the end of February before I slack.
This year is an absolute disaster.
1- Dieting: no bread or wheat.
Unfortunately, I cooked and baked so much for the kids and friends. Seriously I can't just throw the leftovers. Someone has to finish all the delicious sweets before I can start dieting. Guess who's doing her best to clean the fridge of cakes, baklavas, chocolates, special breads... Oh my stomach!
2- Exercise: two hours a day. Either at the gym or if it's a good weather, walk outside or swim in the heated pool. So far the weather has been gorgeous in Florida but... I'm sick, congested, and can hardly breathe. Exercising is out of the question until I get better.
3- Write four new books. Hu...
I finally finished the one I started six months ago. But I will write the four books for sure as soon as I can publish and promote the one I just finished.
4- Talk to my kids every day. Hmm... Shouldn't they be the ones calling their sick old mother? When I told them that, the answer was, "Mom, you're far from old. I wish I had your energy. You'll get over your cold soon. Can you babysit on Tuesday?"
Maybe I should call once a week or once a month!
I look at the card where I used my best penmanship to write my resolutions and sigh. It's only January 4, 2015. Maybe I can start on these resolutions on February 1st.

I can absolutely relate to this. I never make resolutions because I know I won't keep them. I agree that you should restart on Feb. 1st. You'll feel better, the sweets will be gone, but then there's Valentine's Day . . . .
ReplyDeleteValentine's Day, no chocolate for sure. Somehow I have to keep these resolutions!
DeleteOh my gosh, Mona! Your resolutions sound *so much* like mine! Unfortunately, I'm not off to great beginnings either...lol. Ah, well! There's always tomorrow, and um... next year? :)
ReplyDeleteYes, tomorrow, Ginny. Actually next week would be much better. All the leftovers would be gone and hopefully my cold too.
DeleteI heard on tv we make resolutions we cant keep or really don't want to keep rather than realistic goals we can keep.
ReplyDeleteMy goal for the year is to go to the dr less than last year which should be easy considering I saw a dr or specialist 40 times last year not counting one operation.
Rather than diet I have the goal of eating healthier if I have a bad day I don't beat myself up.
Hi Jenny,
DeleteFor some reason, the food I like is never healthy, although I try hard to like healthy meals.
I don't think resolutions count until the Monday after the new year. Just sayin.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mel. I need that boost of energy. We'll reconvene Monday, not the coming one--too soon--but the one after.
