Lately,
my fellow Sweet Romance Reads authors have been blogging about cooking and
hobbies. I don’t have much to add to
discussions like these because since my children are grown and gone, I don't cook much anymore. Also, for the past several years, I’ve had a very
short attention span when it comes to hobbies. Last year, a local fabric store was going out
of business so I stocked up on quilting fabric.
I loved picking out the colors, matching and contrasting them, thinking
about quilt patterns I like and dreaming about the beautiful finished quilts I
would have. I would make one for each of
my grandchildren. They would be
heirlooms, passed down from one generation to another exactly like the one I’ve
got that my grandmother made for me so many years ago.
So, how many
quilts have I finished? If you guessed none,
you’d be right. Those fabrics look
beautiful stacked in the closet, though.
I’ve also got a
big container full of beads that would gladden the heart of many a dedicated
jewelry designer. It was an estate sale
bargain I simply couldn’t pass up. All
those sparkly items will come in handy some day, right? So far, they’ve only been used by my
grandkids for creating one-of-a-kind Christmas ornaments.
My conclusion is
that I’m better at daydreaming about these projects than I am at actually
finishing them – or even starting them, for that matter. In fact, I think I’ll just make daydreaming
my new hobby. After all, it’s something
that always pays off for writers.
