Rodeo Romance from Shanna Hatfield

Racing Christmas, the sixth in the Rodeo Romance series, just released and I'm happy to share a little about it with you today.

She’s racing to save the ranch
He’s struggling to win her heart. . . again

Brylee Barton has just one goal in mind: win the barrel racing world championship. Not for the glory, but for the attached cash prize that could save her family’s ranch. When an injury leaves her at the mercy of the very same copper-headed, silver-tongued cowboy she once vowed to loathe forever, she has no choice but to swallow her pride and accept his help.

Fun-loving, easy-going Shaun Price has a million dollar smile, more charm than he can channel, and a string of ex-girlfriends rumored to have started their own support group. When the one woman he’s never quite managed to get out of his head or heart needs his assistance, he jumps at the chance to help. Little does he realize how challenging it will be to keep from falling for her all over again.

With the holiday season fast approaching, will Shaun and Brylee discover the gift of forgiveness, and experience their own happily-ever-after?

This sweet Christmas romance warms the heart, lifts the spirit, and touches the soul with its message of forgiveness, hope, and redemption. Don’t miss it!

When I wrote the first book in this series, The Christmas Cowboy, I needed some help with a bit of research. I reached out to the Justin Sportsmedicine Team and they were incredibly helpful. They also told me about an organization called the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. This non-profit organization provides help to injured rodeo athletes and 100 percent of their donations goes straight to the fund.

I was so impressed, I decided to give back to the JCCF through a yearly campaign called  Read a Book, Help a Cowboy. It raises funds and awareness for JCCF.

From November 1 through December 24, I donate a percentage of my book sales to the JCCF. For more details, hop over to my website: http://shannahatfield.com/jccf. Basically, any book I've written that you purchase between now and Christmas helps out those injured athletes.

One Old West Cinderella discovers
Prince Charming is a. . . Cowboy?

The death of her mother left Philamena Booth grieving and at the mercy of her drunken father. After spending more than a decade held captive on their run-down farm, she’s left speechless when her father strikes a bargain to settle a long overdue debt. In lieu of payment, a handsome cowboy agrees to take Philamena. Mortified yet relieved to leave the farm, she finds herself married to the charismatic, caring man.
Luke Granger might own Hardman’s bank and the fanciest house in the Eastern Oregon town, but he’d much rather be outside riding his horses or wrangling his herd of cattle than keeping his account books straight. In a strange, unsettling turn of events, he finds himself accepting a farmer’s daughter instead of money to cover a loan. If the man hadn’t threatened to sell her to the saloon owner, Luke might have refused. He has no idea what to do with the beautiful Filly or their marriage of convenience, but he’s about to get far more than he bargained for.
Full of Victorian and western charm, The Christmas Bargain is a sweet holiday romance filled with the spirit of the season.
Here’s an exceprt:
Luke grinned at her and wiggled his fingers. “Come on, Filly. It’s a little late to worry about propriety now, don’t you think?”

She took his hand and swung behind him, lacing her hands around his waist and leaning her head against his back. As they rode to the parsonage, Luke kept his hand resting on top of hers.

“I’d like to speak with you about your ride to the Jenkins farm,” he said, using his most official banker’s tone.

She should have known riding through town with her skirts up to her knees and hair flying would embarrass Luke. She was really going to have to work on behaving with more decorum. More like a proper banker’s wife.

He smiled and his icy eyes warmed to a liquid blue as he looked at her over his shoulder. “I’d like to discuss how enticing you looked with your skirts hiked up and your hair rippling behind you. I pictured you as some ancient Irish warrior queen riding into battle. Filly, my girl, you’ve been holding out on me by keeping all that glorious hair confined to buns or braids. I think we need a let-your-hair-down lesson to go along with our kissing lessons.”

Cowboys and Christmas by Shanna Hatfield

Yesterday, I released the fifth book in my Rodeo Romance series.

This story was really fun for me to write because the circumstances leading to the romance were a little out of the norm.

He certainly didn't ask Santa for a bride. . .

Professional bull rider Chase Jarrett has the world on a string. The only blight in his idyllic existence is his nosy cousin’s nonstop nagging about his need for more publicity. Tired of listening to her suggestions, he gives her free rein when she hatches a plan to skyrocket his popularity. All he has to do is show up for a phony wedding in Las Vegas. Then Chase discovers the wedding was real, the surprise bride is beautiful, and his sponsors are demanding he remain married.

Shy and introverted, the last thing Jessie Pierce wants is to find herself in the spotlight. But thanks to a meddling so-called best friend, that’s exactly where she’s at. The promise of an all-expenses paid vacation to Las Vegas lures her on an adventure that ends with her unexpectedly married to a hunky bull rider who would draw her out of her shell if she’d let him.

A business proposal leaves the two of them committed to a year of marriage. How hard could it be to remain wed in name only?

Chase is less than enthusiastic to go along with his cousin's plan:

“Explain this half-hatched scheme to me again,” he said, releasing a resigned sigh.

Ashley grinned and climbed up on the bumper, seating herself close to where Chase continued to lean on the tailgate. “It’s simple. We’ll run a contest from now until two weeks before the finals rodeo begins in December. Women will enter to become your bride. A winner will be selected and notified. We’ll have a mock ceremony with a limo and the whole works in Las Vegas.”

His gaze narrowed until his eyes looked like wary slits. “And the wedding wouldn’t be real. Just a fake ceremony?”

“That’s right. Just for fun. Women will go nuts to enter this contest. Even if it is only for a day, they’ll be beside themselves at the opportunity to be the bride of Chase Jarrett.” Ashley smiled at him in the way she had since they were kids, whenever she attempted to manipulate him into doing her bidding.

“And the winner would understand it is all pretend, that the whole bride thing would end before the rodeo started that evening. She would be clear on the point I’d most likely never see or speak to her again. Is that right?”

Ashley nodded. “Of course. I’ll personally vet the finalists so you don’t end up with a mentally unhinged stalker chick hunting you down.”

Chase ran a nervous hand across the back of his neck then removed his hat, giving the idea some thought before he looked to Ashley again. “You absolutely promise I will not have any grief, headaches, annoyances, or frustration from this? The winner will understand, beyond a reasonable doubt, that she gets one kiss at the phony ceremony and maybe one when we go our separate ways later. Nothing more. I don’t want some demented girl trying to rip my clothes off in the limo.”

I also enjoy writing books in this series because it ties in so well to an annual charity I support.

The release of Chasing Christmas also kicked off the 4th annual Read a Book, Help a Cowboy.

November 1 through December 24, ten percent of the net proceeds from all Shanna Hatfield book sales will be donated to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. The JCCF is a non-profit organization that assists rodeo athletes who’ve sustained catastrophic injuries and are unable to work for an extended period.

I decided to donate to JCCF after writing a the first book in the Rodeo Romance sweet romance series that centers around rodeo athletes. Now in the fourth year, the Cowboys and Christmas campaign generates funds through book sales made during the holiday season and raises awareness about JCCF.  For more details about the campaign or Hatfield’s books, please visit her website: http://tinyurl.com/readforcowboys

Yesterday was also fun because I announced a big project I've been working on for months... my very first children's book.

A few years ago, I held a contest and the winner could choose a name and an animal that I would include in a future story. The winner chose a mule named Steve. So I worked Steve into the sixth book in my Pendleton Petticoats series - Bertie. As soon as the book published, I began getting comments from readers about that crazy mule. I can’t tell you how many people have asked for Steve to have his own story.

In the spring, when yet another reader asked for more about Steve in a future story, I finally landed on the idea of giving the mule his own story… through a children’s book.

Captain Cavedweller and Lil’ Miss shared their thoughts and feedback as I started turning the idea into a story. It was quite a process, but I eventually connected with an incredible illustrator named Rob Foote. Rob brought Steve to life in the pages of this story. He even managed to include a little hidden quail on every page.

And next week, November 16, Steve The Mule will debut in his very own story.

The book will be available digitally as well as in print formats. If you’re looking for a fun Christmas gift for youngsters and the young at heart - this could be it!

For now, you can pre-order it on Amazon!

From the beloved Pendleton Petticoats series, Steve the Mule now has his own story!
Steve the Mule has an important job at his family’s ranch in 1910 Pendleton, Oregon.  Explore a day in his life as he keeps an eye on little Willa. When he discovers trouble brewing, Steve races off to save her. Will he make it in time?
USA Today Bestselling Author Shanna Hatfield and talented illustrator Rob Foote offer this lighthearted tale full of laughter and fun.

The Season of Nostalgia by Shanna Hatfield

My sister, as a baby.
**Reminder: The Sweet Romance Reads Holiday Open House is today at noon! Don't miss out on the fun, games, prizes, and recipes at the Sweet Romance Reads Cafe!**

For many of us, the holiday season is so much more than an opportunity to eat too much food, spend too much money, and  try to cram in too many activities into our already busy lives.

The holidays are about the relationships we share with those we love.

About the special feelings we keep in our hearts and the individual moments of innate sweetness that we want to remember forever.

The Christmas season always make me think of my sister. She was born with a brain tumor that continued to grow throughout her life. She also had epilepsy and never quite reached mental maturity.

Ten years ago, she passed away from head trauma resulting from one of her seizures.

She was 14  when I was born and really messed up the good thing she had going. She had been the baby of the family for all that time and liked things as they were. Along came this interloper who threw the world as she knew it into a tailspin.

To say there was a bit of resentment on her part would be a mild understatement. Most of the time, I think my presence was a constant reminder that her position had been usurped.

But Christmas…Christmas, with its wonderful magical air would sweep over her with a beautiful blanket of peace and goodwill and things would be different. The desire to have fun, to be good because Santa was watching, took over.

My Dad and brothers with my sister - mid 1950s.
She would start making presents for everyone. Under different circumstances, I think she would have been a great artist. She liked to draw cartoons and did a bang up job with it. Her favorite character was Snoopy.

She also liked to do embroidery. The last Christmas she was really with us, she stitched up two little pictures of dogs (another of her favorite things) and gave one to me and one to Captain Cavedweller. I have them in frames hanging just outside my office door.

Although she wasn’t overly fond of the great outdoors, before Christmas she could be found outside attempting to build a snowman or plotting some way to bombard unsuspecting individuals with snowballs.

She would get involved with things she normally ignored the rest of the year, like baking and decorating. The decorating... oh, my. There were times I thought it might throw my mom into a tailspin.

I don’t know where it came from but there was a music box – a little golden bird cage with a tiny bird inside that would tweet a holiday tune (which I can’t even remember now). She would dig through the decorations until she found it. The nostalgic aroma of bayberry would waft out of the storage box and fill the room with a scent that forevermore will bring a picture to mind of our family decking the halls, circa 1978.

Once found, she would have that bird tweeting over and over until I thought my parents would throw it in a snowbank. As annoying as it was, it wasn’t Christmas until she got that music box out and played it a dozen times.

As he head into the holiday season, I’d like the opportunity, just once more, to watch her play that music box, to see the look of wonder and joy that filled her face each Christmas.

My wish for you all is that you cherish every precious moment with those you love and hold dear. Make some beautiful Christmas memories with them this year — memories that take up a very special little corner in your heart.

The Christmas Cowboy (Rodeo Romance Book 1) —
Flying from city to city in her job as a busy corporate trainer for a successful direct sales company, Kenzie Beckett doesn’t have time for a man. And most certainly not for the handsome cowboy she keeps running into at the airport. Burned twice, she doesn’t trust anyone wearing boots and Wranglers, especially someone as charming and handsome as Tate Morgan.
Among the top saddle bronc riders in the rodeo circuit, easy-going Tate Morgan can handle the toughest horse out there, but trying to handle the beautiful Kenzie Beckett is a completely different story.
As the holiday season approaches, this Christmas Cowboy is going to need more than a little mistletoe to win her heart.
