Favorite Sweethearts by Alicia Street

This is that special time of year when we celebrate sweethearts. Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and it’s Friday today so you can bet there will be plenty men taking their sweethearts out to dinner this evening. I know I’m going to have a big piece of chocolate cake for dessert. J

As a romance writer I often think about couples in books and movies who make us sigh and root for them to overcome the crazy obstacles in their path and find each other and to open their hearts to lasting love.

I cannot get enough of Claire and Jamie, and I have several versions of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy’s winding path to love both in film and print.

Allie and Noah squeeze our hearts in The Notebook, Scarlett and Rhett make us growl and shake our heads, and Catherine and Heathcliff make us cry for them.

Tristan and Iseult, Romeo and Juliet, Jane Eyre and Rochester, Hermione and Ron, Katniss and Peeta. So many shades of love, so many kinds of sweethearts.

My romance, The Sweetheart Test explores what happens when two people who are devoted to their careers discover what they want more than anything is love.

Who are your favorite sweethearts from books or movies?

Happy Valentine's Day by Merrillee Whren

Today isn't only Valentine's Day. It is my wedding anniversary. We got married on Valentine's Day as a matter of convenience rather than for romantic reasons. My husband had to be out of his apartment by the end of February, so we wanted to get married before he had to get out of his place. At the time I was a school teacher, and I didn't want to take too many days off for a honeymoon during the school year, so we picked the weekend before President's Day, which I had off. Valentine's Day just happened to be the Saturday before. Not only were we married on Valentine's Day, but we had our reception in Loveland, Ohio. I always say that's why I became a romance writer. Here we are dancing at our reception.

If you read this early in the day, I will be winging my way across the USA from Arizona to Florida for a Valentine and anniversary celebration. We are meeting longtime friends, whom we met just weeks after we got married. We have celebrated our anniversary with them numerous times over the years. We always have a fun time.

Since it is Valentine's Day, my gift to you is HOMETOWN PROMISE, the first book in my Kellersburg series. You can download it by using this link. The link expires on February 15, 2019, so be sure to get it today.

Also my latest release, FOUR LITTLE BLESSINGS, is on sale for 99 CENTS! Check out this video about the book. You can get it at these retailers.

Do you celebrate Valentine's Day?

A Love Song for Kayla is free until Feb. 16th

When two strangers cross paths their lives are forever altered.

Kayla Russel hates Valentine's Day and has all but given up on finding love until a new guy to town walks into her flower shop right before her least favorite day of the year. There is something mysterious about him that intrigues her, but when she finds out the truth everything changes.

Derek Parker wants to leave his old life behind, but it proves to be harder than he'd anticipated when his past finds him. Now the woman he has come to care for feels deceived.

Will his secrets come between them and destroy what could have been something wonderful?

When Wade Dalton moves to a small Florida beach community for peace and quiet and a new job, he encounters the four little kids next door who are anything but quiet. Because of difficult circumstances, the little noisemakers live with their young aunt, Cassie Rankin, who is their guardian. Wade is drawn to her determination, giving nature, and beauty, but she’s at least a dozen years younger than he is—way too young for him. At least that’s what he keeps telling himself. Besides, he has issues that would only make life more challenging for Cassie and her charges. So he plans to stay out of their lives, but four little blessings refuse to let that happen.

I’ve always enjoyed vintage Valentine’s Day cards. I’m so amazed at how different they are than today’s cards. But the feelings that they express haven’t changed. I've decided to share a few of my favorites. I hope you enjoy them too!

Would you pay $99,000 for a Valentine’s Day dinner? by Josie Riviera

Last year, my local Waffle House offered inexpensive Valentine’s Day dinners featuring their trademark waffles and bacon. To complete the ambiance, candles and a white tablecloth added a touch of romanticism.

However, those people with a more disposable income can opt for dinner prepared at their home by a Michelin chef for . . . $99,000!

In an article I recently read, the eight-course meal may feature such items as duck eggs, truffles, and bottle of $27,000 wine.

Entertainment? A professional harpist or violinist, white doves, and/or a poet.

From my research, this Valentine’s dinner has not yet been purchased, but it certainly speaks of luxury at its best.

Do you have any special plans for Valentine’s Day?
Please leave your comments below.

My husband is checking into Waffle House, although we may opt for early dining at our favorite local restaurant in the Charlotte, NC, area, instead.
