Dream On by Pat Simmons

Some people have dreams that are vivid, silly, or with messages—warnings or guidance about situations.

I have an assortment. Last week, I had a dream I would call a weird horror flick. I arrived at a house to deliver groceries. The front door opened after I knocked and it was dark inside. I sensed a trap. The twists and turns were so crazy in this dream that I finally sat in the middle of the highway, praying for a mac truck to run me over. I woke up, trying to shake the silliness, but when I closed my eyes again, I returned to the same spot in the middle of the highway.

When my husband has “horror” dreams that he won’t easily admit are scary, he wakes up, screaming, then laughs himself back to sleep. I’ve learned to roll over and ignore him.

However, some dreams can’t easily be dismissed. One of my books, The Keepsake, was inspired by a dream. I didn’t want to write the story, so I conveniently forgot the details, thinking I would be off the hook. Nope. A few days after later, God sent the same dream again, same details.  Fast forward years later, the book has not only been well received, but some churches have used it for their couples’ ministry. I guess there was a message in that dream.
In another book, Defense of Love, there was a scene that came alive in a dream. To this day, I can still see that character’s eyes, taunting me. The image was creepy.

Otherwise, my dreams are a result of what I ate or watched on television the night before. Sometimes, when I’m focused on finishing a book, my characters want to cry, talk, or do something important. Mentally, I’m shouting at them to go to bed, because my body is exhausted. There have been times when I have prayed and asked the Lord to shut down my mind, so my body can get some rest. Of course, in the morning when I’m awake, my characters are in a deep sleep.

What are your dreams like?

What’s Love Got to do with it? Everything, When You’re a Caregiver by Pat Simmons

No two caregivers’ situations are the same. Join me on Facebook: Tuesday, March 27th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. CDT: My Rock, Caregiver’s Release Party.
My Rock is Book I in the Caregivers series. I had written the outline more than seven years ago, and I actually had forgotten about it until God whispered, “Someone needs to hear from Me.”
I powered up my laptop and began to craft the Caregivers series.

One year and three hundred and sixteen pages later, My Rock makes its debut. Here’s the story:
Three sisters living in three different cities (Baltimore, St. Louis, and Nashville) make a pact to share responsibilities for their aging relative after authorities find Aunt Tweet across state lines. Her destination had been a neighborhood grocery store. The siblings soon learn the definition of caregiver includes a cup full of patience, a slight sense of humor, and when to cry out for help. Women juggle between career and family all the time, but Tabitha Knicely (St. Louis) is struggling to find a balance. Romance is the last thing she’s trying to add to her list. The Aunt Tweet she knew all her life is not the same one who is residing in her home when she accepts the role as a caregiver for six months. Overwhelmed can’t begin to describe her emotions. Marcus Whittington is an opinionated, successful business owner, but he has a soft side when it comes to the elderly. They remind him of good memories of his grandparents. When Aunt Tweet is the mystery woman who stakes out his porch, he becomes concerned that she is not being taken care of properly. He sheds his misconceptions about what Tabitha isn’t doing right when he discovers that every caregiver needs a caregiver. Marcus knows in order to win Tabitha's heart; he has to charm Aunt Tweet's too.

I’m interested in your story as a caregiver, so please join My Rock, Caregivers release Party

Life is a bowl of stories—romance stories of course!

Many times I’m asked where I get my story ideas.  Life, people watching, the news, and yes, even in a CPR class, I conjured up another masterpiece. Anything could trigger a story plot.

I’ve never attended a CPR class before, so I was eager to learn about life saving tips. As our presenter ran through the different scenarios of “if this happens, do this,” I wondered about those real life emergencies, and how I could re-write the script for happy endings.
I came up with my own “What-ifs.”  For example, what if a woman fainted, a paramedic happened to be nearby. He performed CPR, saved her life, and parted ways. But that’s not the end of the story. What if months later, the heroine found herself in trouble again? When the ambulance arrived, the medic recognized her.  What should happen next? Oh the possibilities.
What if my heroine is a single mother and her toddler is choking? She’s screaming for help, and a new neighbor moving in next door responds, but he’s just as scared as her. Hmm-mm. What a plot twist that will be when they find themselves praying for Godly intervention.

Yep, it doesn’t take much to activate my imagination. No wonder, I’m the author of 35+ Christian romances. No matter how my books start off, there is always a happy ending.

I have two bargain books to offer about heroines who are rescued, not by CPR, but love. Enjoy them for .99 cents.

Character Driven Stories

Not only am I an author, trust me, I’m definitely a character. The most popular one is Grandma BB. Mrs. Beatrice Tilley Beacon a.k.a. Grandma BB steals the show every time she struts into a scene. Her wit, sassy unapologetic mouth, and outrageous antics will challenge anyone’s sanity.  Despite her flawed character, Grandma BB has made the Jamieson Legacy one of my oldest, ongoing series in my ten year career. Plus, it’s my favorite storyline to write. Actually, I do the research and the characters tell their own stories. With a background in news, my passion is to tackle real issues, such as abortion, witchcraft, adoption, African American vs. African misperceptions, family roots, and redemption from past regrets. Of course, I can’t leave out romance.
Although I have drama in my books, there is no church drama. I believe most go to church or read Christian fiction/romance for inspiration, deliverance, and salvation, which is why at least one character in my stories has a heart after God.
Readers can’t get enough of the Jamiesons, so I’m in the process of writing a Special Edition Jamieson Family Night, along with a game book that will test your knowledge about the characters. If you’ve never read Kidd, Cameron, Parke, Ace, Grandma BB and the others, I have just the stories to warm your heart from the winter blast. Reach out to me at authorpatsimmons@gmail.com to purchase an autograph copy today and see why the Jamiesons will soon become your favorite.

The Mission by Pat Simmons

My Mission

Hi, I’m Pat Simmons, one of the Christian romance authors of Sweet Romance Reads. I’m celebrating 10 years as a published author and I’m grateful for every reader who has posted a review and called me their favorite Christian author.

5 STARS on COUPLE BY CHRISTMAS by Kindle Customer. “I read the first part of the book in a Christmas book bundle and was hooked. Had to find out what happened to the Washingtons. Glad to see that with the help of God they were able to fix what was broken. Would love to read Marlon's story. I love how the focus on God is so evident through this book. It's so rare to find it these days.”
4 STARS on REDEEMING HEART by Lali. I really appreciate the fact that authors such as Pat are not afraid to show Christians who try live by the Word on all fronts.

For me, writing Christian romance is a ministry. My stories are designed to encourage readers. Restore their faith in God and romance. Romance doesn’t have to be about sex on paper one. Romance is about the long phone calls, flowers, walks in the parks, praying together, sharing Scriptures, sharing their salvation walk, the first kiss, and of course, standing before God at the altar, pledging that everlasting love. I strive to write memorable scenes that the reader will think and talk about after the last page. Now, those are the types of stories that leave my readers breathless. Want to fall in love?
