Discover Your Family Heritage by Josie Riviera

When my family and I celebrated July 4th earlier this month, I found myself thinking about my heritage.
Our nation is known as a “melting pot” and countless people came to the United States seeking a better life—many beginning their journey at Ellis Island as immigrants.

The shows on television about people who research their family tree and find they are a distant relative of George Washington or Florence Nightingale are so intriguing! To be fair, I doubt most of us will have such an interesting family tree, but you never know.
With vacations on hold, gathering stories and photos to compile into a family history is a worthwhile and interesting pursuit during this pandemic summer. Spend time with the older generation through phone chats or Zoom, and interview them about their past experiences.
Today with the Internet it is easier than ever to research your heritage and create a family tree. All sorts of tools, some free and others at a cost, will enable you to delve deeper and discover your lineage.
Are you ready to learn more about your ancestry?
