Diversity.. by Christine Bush

There are lots of types of people on this planet. I love this.  As in so many other way, our romance novels  often reflect this.

Our varied heroines and heroes experience life from different perspectives, making our stories rich and heartwarming. Sometimes heartbreaking. Full of love.

Stories with diverse characters can awaken our hearts to the human similarities in all of us. They can also teach us about specific characteristics or values of different cultures. They promote understanding, acceptance, and appreciation.  Our daily life today can sometimes use a good dose of these things!

Sometimes, our books teach of days gone by, historical novels that can take you to the moors of Scotland, where the plaid you wore could be a life and death matter.

Sometimes, they take us to another culture, like life in India or life on an Amish farm, or on the Navajo reservation.

Sometimes we learn about different traditions, different customs, different beliefs.

Sometimes our characters are different races, different religions, different ages. And our happily ever afters all  celebrate that universal concept of love.

Always, we see the commonality of us all, that love and kindness and understanding are what makes us human. It makes us friends, makes us celebrate each other for our differences, as well as for our sameness of heart.
Celebrate diversity today! What are some of the diverse stories that you enjoy to read or write? I’d love to hear!

  2. Since you bring up diversity in fiction, I want to let folks know about a brand new, diverse Christmas romantic comedy on Netflix which is now on my list to watch every year. It's called The Holiday Calendar. Thank you for this topic, Christine!
