Christmas Cards by Cindy Flores Martinez

Here’s some interesting Christmas card trivia:

-- The first commercial Christmas card was produced in London in 1843 when Sir Henry Cole commissioned artist John Callcott Horsley to create what’s known as, "The Christmas Card". (see image below)

-- In 1874, Louis Prang from the lithograph firm Prang and Mayer began selling Christmas cards in the United States. Some call him the "father of the American Christmas card".

-- Fast forward to today, approximately 1.3 billion Christmas cards are sent every year according to Hallmark.

-- Etiquette experts say that the best time to send Christmas cards is by mid-December.

-- The post office has designated December 20, 2016 as the last day to send a Christmas card through first class mail in order to reach its destination in the U.S. before Christmas.

What about you? Have you already sent your Christmas cards?

  1. I really don't send Christmas cards anymore. My husband will send a few out to his family members who send us one.

    1. Me neither. I like sending gif animated Christmas images through text message, or e-cards.

    1. Me too. I read that e-cards replaced paper cards for a while, but people have gone back to sending mostly paper cards.

  3. I haven't sent my cards yet, but I send cards every year to people we've known in the eleven states where we have lived. It's nice to keep in touch even if only one time a year.
