The Joy of Friendship..... by Christine Bush

My life is busy, productive, and probably about as happy as it has been at any time of my life.  The realization amazes me.  However, sometimes the days are so full my head spins.  It takes a lot of scheduling and time management to keep the daily priorities straight and address all that needs to be done.  Sometimes I get very, very tired.  I’m going to bet there are few more out there who know the feeling.

I’ve needed a rest.  I just had the marvelous opportunity to get one, in the form of a weekend retreat with an absolutely wonderful group of women.  We bunked in rustic cabins at a serene lake in the Poconos.  I was away from it all.  No lesson plans, no editing, no laundry, no dishes. I was immersed in the company of beloved friends.

The food was provided, and the weather cooperated, despite threats of rain. The camaraderie and peace rejuvenated my soul.  We had deep discussions, leisurely walks, and hilarious games of Cranium and Encore and dominoes.  We laughed, we cried, and got to know each other even more.  It was a gift.

I’m back to busy mode again.  And life is even more joyful after the time of rest.  I want to remind myself of this the next time the daily load of life feels more like an obligation than an opportunity.  Sometimes, I just need to removed myself from the schedule. The rejuvenation is worth it!

How about you?  How to you feed your spirit?  I’d love to hear.
