Do You Have a Bucket List? by Margaret Daley

Bucket lists can be done for different reasons—to set goals, dreams to strive for or fun things to do. If you look at having a bucket list to help you set future goals, then you need to ask yourself what do you want to accomplish. To make a certain income per year? To see the world? To give back to the community? Something you want to obtain in your career?

Before you make your list think about these things to help with what to put down:

1. If you only had one day to live, what would you do?

2. Who would you like to spend time with the most? Friends? Family?

3. Who would you like to meet in person and talk to?

4. Where would you like to visit?

5. Is there something you would like to do—like learn a new language or scuba dive?

6. What has been your dream as a child? Young adult? A parent?

7. If you had all the time and money you wanted, what would you do?

8. What are your achievements? What else do you want to achieve?

9. How do you want to be remembered?

10. What will give your life its greatest meaning?

These are just some questions you can think about before you sit down and make your list. I don't have a bucket list, but I do have goals—all in my mind.  If I stop and think of what I want to do with the time left to me both serious and fun, I could make a bucket list. A list gives you something to work for.

So let me see what should be number one on my bucket list?

It could be anything you want—from visiting Australia to writing a bestseller to working in a mission in South America—because it is YOUR list.

  1. A bucket list is a great idea, especially when there are so many things that we need to do or want to do. I'll definitely have to start one myself.

  2. I've never had an official bucket list, but as I moved around the USA, I went to a lot of different states. My first goal was to visit all 50, and I've done that. Then I started a list of foreign countries I wanted to visit. I've been to 23. There are some big sporting events I've wanted to attend. So far I've made it to the Master's Golf Tournament, Kentucky Derby, Wimbledon Tennis Championships, the NCAA Basketball finals, and the Super Bowl. Two things on my list that I'm anticipating are a trip to Australia and New Zealand and a trip to the US Open Tennis Championships. I also want to visit all the US national parks. I feel blessed that I've been able to do a lot of things on my list.

  3. I think before they called it a bucket list it was called goals. I have had many over the years that I have done, see my first live Cricket match and then a few goals that go with that, Climb Ayres Rock, Go to Hawaii, See Gettysburg, Meet a few online friends for the first time, Visit Canada. See snow but that was a huge disappointment as it was really ice as it was snow from the previous winter and not fresh. So seeing fresh snow is still on my list as well as seeing the Arora (we have a southern one and that would make me happy to see). I would love to go to Alaska.

  4. Jenny, I agree. It's a way to think about the future with goals and dreams.

  5. A bucket list is a good idea, as it keeps us in sight of our goals. I love to travel, and several countries are on my bucket list, beginning with France.
