It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas by Aileen Fish #sweetromance

I happened to go to my daughter's house on November 1 and noticed her neighbor had Christmas lights up already. They day before, they'd had a giant pumpkin and Halloween decorations on the lawn. I was rather surprised that the minute one holiday was taken down, we skipped the next (which brings up a whole nuther question—why don't we have Thanksgiving decorations?) and went straight to Christmas almost two months ahead of time.

They aren't the only ones. A few other houses in that neighborhood are now lit up, as well as some in my neighborhood. I don't mind the festiveness, but I'm one who grumbles at how early the stores change over to Christmas. I'm surprised people are following suit at their homes.

I admit, I did little decorating last year due to deadlines, so I can't really complain. But I'm curious if I'm the only one who thinks late November is plenty of time to light up the house. When do you usually put out your decorations?

Aileen Fish's A Marquess For Christmas is included in the anthology The Duke's Christmas Summons. Four years ago, Lady Eleanor’s brother Archie found his love, Harriet, indirectly due to the Duke of Danby’s summons at Christmastime. Now Eleanor hopes Danby will do the same for her, but she’ll have to get over her shyness to meet anyone. Discovered by the handsome Marquess of Wickham as she hides away in the nursery, she agrees to pretend there’s an understanding between them so his uncle won’t try to force him to marry. Eleanor enjoys Wickham’s company, but how will she find a husband if the gentlemen all believe she’s already in love?

  2. I'm not particularly a decorator, nor a baker, nor a super shopper...just very busy. However, I LOVE Christmas. .. so I greatly appreciate all who do those things! And if early works for them, yay! Beat the cold weather and frostbite hanging those lights, stock on the cookies, and drop those prices early. To me, it's NO insult to Thanksgiving at all.. I love both, and think however and whenever people celebrate or prepare in this complex world, it's great. I'm grateful to be able to celebrate at all. Sometimes life is very tough. Whatever makes folks happy is a very wonderful thing. Happy holidays (all of them!) !!!!!!!

  3. Aileen, it seems that Thanksgiving is the holiday that is pushed aside maybe because it is a more reflective holiday and no so flashy. Thanksgiving is also celebrated in different countries at different time whereas Christmas is universal. I like to decorate for Christmas, but I wait to do it after Thanksgiving is over.

  4. I don't do Halloween decorations. Too much work for one day. I put up fall décor right after Labor Day and it lasts until November. I usually start right after Halloween and get my Christmas decorations up because it's a lot of work and I want to get as much mileage out of them as possible. I have people over on Thanksgiving so I have it all done by then. Actually, I usually am done by now, but we have three different house projects going on at the same time so the decorations are sitting in my living room in the boxes. I'm determined to get them done by the 15th though. We have the outdoor lights up but usually don't turn them on until Thanksgiving night.

  5. There is so much work and often so much money involved, it makes sense to get the most our of Christmas decorations, as long as they don't leave them up until Easter too. I love Christmas decorations, but not into quite so over the whether it is two weeks or two months.
