Honeymoons by Aileen Fish

Remember when newlyweds all wanted to go to Niagara Falls for their honeymoons? By the time I got married, Hawaii was the place to go. With my daughters' generation, it seems a cruise was ideal.

The trend I see is water, but also a bit of the exotic. With a cruise, there is also the idea of escape and being pampered. It's probably the best choice for being alone together, too. But so is camping in the wilderness.

Fodor's Travel site lists the twelve best honeymoon destinations for 2014 and all of the locations feature water. The surprising choice is Croatia, where you get the beauty of the Mediterranean without the crowds. (Unless everyone reads their blog!)

If you could have a first or second honeymoon anywhere in the world, where would you go? My pick would be a private island just for two!

  1. I love mountains, much more so that tropical locales, though we do both when we travel now. Next year, we plan to drive from Banff in the Canadian Rockies down through Glacier, Yellowstone and the Tetons. Lots of happy memories in the Jackson Hole area....besides our trips there, our son was a raft guide on the Snake River for four summers, and our daughter worked as a wrangler out there for a summer. They both have harrowing and amusing tales to tell about dealing with the tourists!

Note: the deleted comment above mine was where I posted this comment, then realized our daughter had previously logged into my laptop and the comment was inadvertently under her name.

  2. Way to make me feel long in the tooth! We'll celebrate 30 years this August and Mr. Curtis is a firm believer in celebrating every year. He loves the ocean (having grown up on the beach - literally). Every trip must have water. This summer we're headed to the Big Island.

  3. It's hard to pick because we been fortunate enough to visit so many great places in the world. I still want to go to Australia, so that is what I would pick.

  5. I have to admit that I love the Med. My favorite destination is Greece. I'd move there if I could. The Greeks are so friendly as well. Every year I wonder where I'll chose to go and every year I chose Greece!

    1. On my honeymoon we saw a hula show in Waikiki, but it's been so long I don't remember who put it on. But it was so much fun!
